When Americans sold us F-16 Block 52s with 500 AIM-20 air to air missiles, what do you think they thought we were going to be use them for? Shooting clay pigeons for sport? The only target for that would be IAF. At the time Indian's made a right ruckus. They said A-10 Warthogs would make a good platform for hunting Taliban not F-16s. But US sold them because it was in their interest.

Why are we so coy? The Indian lobby in US is strong. By owning up to using F-16s just gives them meat to start crying and croaking. You can imagine that fcukface Fareed Zakaria croaking on CNN about Pakistan and F-16s. As long as we use them we don't need to give opportunity for Fareed Zakaria and his buddies in Washington to croak.

Pakistan entitled to use F-16 fighter jet against any country: sources

KARACHI: Diplomatic sources on Monday said Pakistan was entitled to use US-made F-16 fighter aircraft for its defence against any country, ARY News reported.

The sources said as per the deal with the United States, the country was not restricted to use the fighter jet against any country.

“Pakistan has not bought F-16 jets as a decoration piece,” they added.

The sources said the US had not contacted on alleged use of F-16 even after passage of three weeks of Pakistan’s striking down Indian aircrafts upon their violation of the Line of Control (LoC).

India had claimed that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) used F-16 in the dogfight on February 27. While a CNN report had revealed earlier this month that JF-17 fighter jet of Pakistan shot down Indian warplane MiG 21 in Azad and Jammu Kashmir.

The JF-17 is a Chinese-designed fighter jet produced jointly by Pakistan and China. The CNN report had said an American diplomat said Washington wanted to know if Pakistan used a US-built F-16 jet to shoot the plane.

“It may have been one of those jets that on Wednesday downed an Indian Air Force fighter plane, leading to the capture by Pakistan of an Indian pilot [Abhinandan Varthaman]” the CNN report had said.

The Indian fighter jet was a MiG-21, a Soviet-designed aircraft,which has been in use since the 1960s. The MiG-21 “forms the backbone” of the Indian Air Force, which has about 200 of those in its inventory, the report noted.

If we can come up with the money they'll sell them. All we need to do is bring the Block 52+ number to about 40 to 50 aircraft, & accumulate older Blocks from where ever possible. Bring the total number of F-16 to ~150. Get 500 more AMRAAMs. This will significantly boost our air power & strengthen the nuclear threshold. This would be an acquisition model similar to Mirage-III/V by PAF, only better.

I think the trust deficit between US and Pak lands would not allow this anymore. Plus Paklands has compatible weapons supply from alternate sources plus local capacity build up. We may not need the 16/52s anymore. MLUed 16/20s maybe another story due to their low cost.

The question of "whether" is a moot point because even if we cant, does anyone believe that in an all out war or hostility, Pakistan would care what end user agreement says? Certainly not as has this episode proven.
However its high time we start moving away from these 16s. We should start procuring J-10s at least in enough numbers to give our boys enough ammo for aggression, leaving the 16s for defending airspace. JF-17 will take care of anything else in between J-10 and F-16.
