If this was a formal ‘congratulatory phone call’, and the US is to be believed (hard to do given other countries also contradicting Trump Administration statements in the past) then Pompeo was out of line bringing an obviously controversial issue into the conversation. He’s supposed to be visiting Pakistan soon - should have left specific policy discussions for that visit instead of poisoning the waters beforehand. Now, without a US retraction of its press release, the Pompeo visit is likely to be even less productive than it would have, if it even happens at all.

Regardless of who may be lying, a U.S. retraction of the State Dept. press release of the conversation may make sense. However, in support of the "mutual benefit" spirit the Pakistani FM cited, his press release condemning the State Dept.'s press release should be retracted as well, don't you think?

Within 1 hour after State Dept. Spokesperson Nauert issued this statement, Indian media, pro-US al-arabiya. Afghan news agencies retweeted how a Secy. of State Pompeo schooled a former cricket star now Head of state Imran Khan to not allow 'terrorists from his territory' into Afghanistan.

This response is the best reaction to US crap in sometime.

But this also was a huge screw-up by our Foreign Office and protocol breach as US Head of state is suppose to congratulate the elected Pakistan PM, not the lower State Dept. official. Someone in Foreign Office who diverted the call to the PM, should be named and fired tomorrow for this fu*k up. IT is a known fact this US Administration will be propagandist and difficult. IF anyone this guy should've interacted with the Foreign Minister wherever he is.

They had to be forced into apologizing, after months of delay, over unjustifiably bombing Pakistani soldiers at Salala - don't expect an apology over this.

What might be accomplished from this protest by Pakistan is that the US might become more careful about future statements. Disagreement over the language of one phone call can probably be feathered over (with both sides sticking to their respective positions) but disagreements over future statements issued after more substantive engagements might go through more vetting.

Not 'creating a scene' or not protesting would only embolden the US to continue to take liberties with the truth, since it wouldn't have to worry about any fallout.
