Pak Suzuki is still struggling to get Greenfield status against estimated investment of $460 million, to construct a second assembly plant in Pakistan.

As per information, two senior diplomats of Japanese embassy in Islamabad have recently met with senior officials of Ministry of Industries and Production, seeking help to “achieve” this goal. However they were clearly told that Suzuki’s investment does not fall under Greenfield status under the prevalent auto policy. Reportedly, the quality of Suzuki’s cars also came under question during the meeting.

According to sources, all Pakistani senior officials and political leaders who visit Japan are being plausibly questioned as to why Suzuki is not being granted Greenfield status despite the fact that the company is willing to make a huge investment in Pakistan. Masafumi Harano MD &CEO of Suzuki said:

“We have completed all the preparatory work to start the construction of our new plant. Funds have been arranged by our principal Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan for direct investment and are ready to transfer. Now we are eagerly awaiting the approval of Greenfield incentives and benefits for the period of three years by the Government of Pakistan.”

The CEO also assured that the company and its vendors will continue progressive localization, assuring that there will be no rollback of localization after allowing the Greenfield incentives and benefits to Pak Suzuki.

no! eff off! the govt must not grant them any more benefits/incentives. they have been ripping off the PAksitani public for decades. force them to improve the quality, and sell at a lower price, with more localized production.

Nope. You fkd your own customers on a bumpy mehran for 3 decades now it's your turn.
Not until manufacturing plant.

They are not getting it. This status is for new investors and Suzuki is an already established brand in Pakistan.

why would they get Greenfield status?
its for new investors only
they just want all the benefits and transfer none to the consumer

NOT ONLY MEHRAN, WE ALSO HAVE THE NOTORIOUS " HIGH ROOF " LATER RENAMED BOLAN, STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL 1984 INCARNATION WITH ONLY THE HEADLIGHT TRIM & STEERING WHEEL CHANGED. FURTHER, BOTH THE HIGH ROOF ( BOLAN ) & ITS MINI TRUCK COUNTERPART ( RAVI ) ARE STILL WITH ONLY THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR KEY LOCK AND NO KEY LOCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR EVEN AFTER 35 YEARS......

They should pay more bribes if they want greenfield status. Anything is possible with the right amount of bribes.

We need better quality cars not some tin cans

The decision was made to protect the jobs of the 200k auto sector employees over the interests of Pakistani consumers, the environment and economy of the country. They make fuel inefficient cars that cost us a lot in fuel imports. It also led to the huge mistake that was mass conversion of cars to CNG.

But now more and more hi tech automobiles companies like Nissan, Hyundai, Renault are coming so why not implement some law that will make mandatory for cars to have certain safety features like ABS, SRS Airbags, EBD etc. More companies means more jobs and better competition

Well if they are making a new plant , I would be ok to give them the status 480 Million Dollar investment is welcomed move

If the New plant will be setup new city or Province

The key point should be

a) Are they bringing new technology into Pakistan for Manufacturing
b) Is the plant brand new
c) Will they also upgrade their old existing plant (YES)
d) Will both plants / manufacturing units hire more workers in Pakistan
e) Will they be introducing fuel efficient engines in Pakistan (YES)

Then in future nobody will have any trust, so no investments.

And get sued like always. Plus loose trust of investors.
