PTI peace march: Two journalists denied Pakistan visa

The Pakistan High Commission in the United Kingdom has rejected visas of two journalists who were invited by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) to participate in its South Waziristan Peace March, said a statement on Friday.

“Pakistan High Commission in London has rejected visas of two renowned journalists Carol Grayson and Yacine Helali who were invited to participate in the South Waziristan Peace March,” the PTI statement said.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan had announced holding a “peace march” to South Waziristan on October 6 to protest against US drone strikes in the area.

“PTI condemns this act of stopping the international media to come to Pakistan for a cause which is in the interest of Pakistan,” the statement added.

Is it only about drone attacks or to probe the HR violations in Balochistan along with HRCP?

A team from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has criticized the Pakistani central government and the provincial authorities for the worsening of security situation in Balochistan. The team said that violence against the ethnic and religious minorities living in the province, especially those residing in the Baloch-majority areas have increased significantly for the past three years. An official from the HRCP claimed that tens of thousands of Punjabi and Urdu speaking residents have left the province, and the situation is showing no signs of improvement. And this does not include the hundreds who have been declared 'missing'.

Two years ago, a government report had claimed that more than 100,000 people, mostly Punjabis and Sindhis have fled Balochistan due to worsening of the security situation. HRCP officials said that the exodus has increased in intensity since then, and between 5,000 and 15,000 people have fled to other parts of Pakistan during the 2011-12 period alone. According to the sources, the exodus is most noticeable in major cities, such as Quetta.

Absolutey right. I think PTI Waziristan march is a great initiative but what can you do when your own army and government are involved in it?!

Who is the moron in UK Embessy? Isin't it the same who had removed Zardari's corruption documents so "secretively" ?

not that its not true, but the point is a documentary will highlight the situation down there, it will create awareness among the international community and the documentary will expose what "they" are doing there... It cannot be said with surely that on whose behalf the visas were not issued, as Pakistan government/army (whatever you like to read) has allowed PTI to conduct Waziristan Peace March, so it might be that the journalists' own countries may have advised Pakistani ambassador not to issue visas on behalf of America?

awareness about the situation in the drone effected areas is not acceptable to war mongers all over the world... they all are the same... criminals, killers and corrupt !!

i want army setup to change, it should be accountable to the public, else its just bunch of opportunists and traitors

Yes and his name is Wajid Shams ul Hassan.

Why does'nt Kayani asks the defence attache in Pak embassy UK to get involved. Put a gun to Wajid's head and he will give you the visa.

Well this PTI march is another Topi Drama and another proof that IK is mentally unstable.
Before this march atleast meet people of Waziristan they will tell you how accurate these strikes are and collateral damage is minimal you can say 1% and more importantly they are allowed to do drones strikes by Pakistani establishment and Government.
Truth is we are corrupt and hypocrite peoples asli baat apny baap ko be nahi bataty.

PTI is invited by Tribes to plea their case to the international community...

I hope you guys know that journalists cannot travel to areas in the north - including Swat, Buner, and the tribal agencies - without requisite permit from the Interior Ministry.

And it's for their own security.

NYT journo Nicholas Schmidle was expelled from Pakistan for similar reasons...

"Journalists must seek permission from the Interior Ministry before traveling to volatile northwest Pakistan, where the leader of Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, are thought to be hiding, and where Taliban militants are believed to gather to plan attacks in Afghanistan."

Pakistan Expels Writer of Article on Taliban - NYTimes.com

Just wondering, is PTI willing to vouch for the safety and security of all foreign journos in the field in Pakistan?
