They were flying an Otter in a foggy moonlit night during a blackout imposed by Pakistan, at an extremely low altitude and with a speed of only 120 miles/hr and with no connection with ATC.

The operation was before IAF participation in the war.

The refinery was used to fuel Pakistani aircraft and military.

The pilots were part of Mukti Bahini and launched the strike from nearby Indian towns.
