I believe parents must be friends with their kids so the kid is comfortable with them...But for everything there is a process...

And discipline should come in so that your friend knows his boundaries!

A baby needs love loads of it...not maar pitai...

A kid who is being naughty needs to know what is right and what is wrong, either by giving serious stares, pulling the kid away or giving small slaps on the back...In Islam we are not allowed to hurt someone in a way that will leave a mark nor do I agree with excessive brutality like beating when you feel angry...

A teenager needs a parent as a friend but at the same time needs to know that they cant get away with everything...If you try teaching at teenage age...it will never work because for every stage there is a different form of parenting!

Anyway, if he is doing something wrong, the easiest way for a bad parent is to stop the kid, either by beating with leaving a mark or by threatening him of some consequences in a halal way, or we can do the good parenting thing and divert him from doing that, say start playing with him or ask him to do something?

cannot we just learn to be good parents instead?

oh dead how you know what the kid learned from that threat? he may have developed fear, hatred, revenge etc.

You must be thinking am copying your thoughts and views but am not.....believe me....i have the same views as thats how I was brought up.....one of my uncles used to he very strict with his kids.....and when they moved to US, all of his kids ledt him.....and my aunti had a similar case the.only difference was she was too easy on kids....

I was telling my cousin who is in USA that we were grocery shopping and this kid sudenly lay flat on the ground (like they show in movies) and was screaming his lungs out and being all ziddi the mom was clearly embarrassed and no she was no desi she was a gori and still embarrassed she kept saying in a low voice we cant afford it but the kid kept on going....she tried to get him up but he was like glued to the floor....

Another time a similar incident in Morisons or was it Tesco and the kid was on the floor and the mom actually walked over him and pretended not to know him

Ooo...another incident I did see was this woman had her child on a leash! Some family friends were laughing and saying the dog is free to run in the park while the kid was on a leash because you are not allowed to leave a mark on the kid so if you angrily pull them towards youself and that leaves a mark...it can be reported as child abuse!

They will raise their kids according to the state law but FOR SOME God forbid if someone abide their religious laws....

Now in Europe, I see parents dragging their kids....and I actually saw a woman smack her child's hand coz they were ziddi and wanted this toy...the kid looked like 2 yrs old....and looked immune to it as she/ he (not sure ...small hair and boyish clothes but looked feminine) as he/she did not cry...

Good parenting is not at all about not hitting them and telling them. But it is about knowing when to hit the kid and when to love him, when to give them space and when to check on them. When to reward them and when to punish them....a good parwnt should always know when to be parent and when to be a friend.....i have experienced boths cases in my own family....

your philosophy is flawed in this matter, in my opinion.. you have some god's method of reward and punishment,

I said without leaving a mark...I do not believe in abusing till 1 bruises...and mind you it takes some real energy to bruise one!

Ohh! Didnt you just tie your nephew in those enormous prams? I have seen kids up to the age of 4 in prams or something...Man West are lazy or just afraid if they pull their kid towards themselves it will leave a mark and then child services will take their child away or something?!
