Musharraf Ki Yaad AAyi Us Kay Janay Kay Baad

Tuesday, June 23, 2009, 12:04
Justice Muhammad Munir Paracha of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) here on Monday issued notices to former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf, former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, former minister for interior Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and former secretary interior Syed Kamal Shah in the Rs 70 million compensation suit filed by Khalid Khwaja.

Defence of Human Rights Chairman Khalid Khwaja had filed this compensation civil suit for his alleged abduction in 2007 when he was kept under detention and cases were registered against him.According to Khwaja, all the cases against him were fake and mala fide and the government could prove nothing incriminating against him. He also said he was detained on the orders of former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf and former government functionaries were responsible for the miseries he had undergone for the crimes not committed.

The court would resume hearing the case on July 02. In another matter, Justice Syed Qalb-e-Hassan of the IHC would hear the habeas corpus petition filed by Khalid Khwaja on the alleged abduction of his elder brother Shah Abdul Aziz, a former MNA and vice chairman of the Defence of Human Rights. The petitioner suspects that his brother was being kept in illegal confinement at the Abpara police station.

As per details furnished by the petitioner, Shah Abdul Aziz came to Islamabad to meet former Lal Masjid Khateeb Maulana Abdul Aziz on his return from Saudi Arabia. After the meeting, Shah Abdul Aziz was leaving Maulana Abdul Aziz’s residence when some unknown people kidnapped him along with Fidaullah, who was accompanying him.The petitioner has alleged that the authorities failed to take any action whatsoever. Moreover, despite the repeated requests of the petitioner, the officials did not register an FIR.

Russia looks at Pakistan with new eyes
Indrani Bagchi Monday June 22, 2009

A week ago, a visit by Pervez Musharraf, former Pakistan president, to Russia alerted Indian authorities. The visit was facilitated by a private businessman, but India realized quite soon that Musharraf was doing some facilitation of his own, preparing the way for the visit of Pakistan army chief, Ashfaque Kayani today. Musharraf, who remains very much a part of Pakistan’s military establishment reportedly had a very “productive” meeting with Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin.

The upshot of that meeting seems to be that Russia is willing to take another look at a defence relationship with Pakistan. Kayani went off on a short visit to Russia today, where he is to meet defence and foreign ministers and the army chief. The key question is, can this be the turning point in Russia’s defence relationship with Pakistan? If Russia starts selling arms to Pakistan, it will actually be a huge turnaround – in all these decades, Russia is probably the only country that did not sell weapons to Pakistan as India’s chief supplier. Pakistan, though, sourced a lot of Russian-made stuff from Ukraine.

Russia also had historical issues with Pakistan. When the Soviet Union withdrew from Afghanistan in 1989, the defeat was not so much at the hands of the Americans as the Pakistanis. That rankled for a long time. But in recent years, India has been shopping elsewhere for weapons.

Russia is now in the company of the Israelis, French and American weapons suppliers. Besides, New Delhi has now had persistent issues with big ticket acquisitions from Russia. So Russia could be feeling liberated from being a one-woman man with India. In fact, Indian officials have registered that Putin certainly feels there could be a commercial defence relationship with Pakistan. Russia’s other big client is China, and right now, China is also in the business of helping out Pakistan against the Taliban and the target of US calls to “stabilize” Pakistan.

In the meantime, Russia’s near abroad is in danger again, from Islamist militant groups in the Fergana valley (despite Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan cannot get a handle on the IMU, and Uzbek militants have been showing up in Pakistan, fighting alongside the Taliban). The argument therefore, is Pakistan needs to be assisted and supported in its fight against the Taliban because the scourge needs to be tackled in the central Asian states. Given this backdrop, Dmitry Medvedev’s meeting with Asif Ali Zardari in Yekaterinburg during the SCO summit was significant. According to reports, Medvedev promised wholehearted support to Pakistan in its military operation.

The Indian government will be watching very carefully to see what kind of defence supplies end up in Pakistan from Russia. But also what it portends for India’s oldest diplomatic friendship.

Lahore, July 4 : Former Pakistan President General (r) Pervez Musharraf assured Pakistani family recently that he would use his influence with the Saudi Arabian government to get them released.

According to the Daily Times, the family was detained after Saudi customs officials found heroin concealed in the slippers of their luggage.

The family has repeatedly claimed innocence, and insisted that their travel agent had given the slippers to them.

Their travel agent, Syed Sarwat Hussain, is already in police custody in Karachi.
'Influential' Musharraf gives assurance to detained Pak family

Pervez Musharraf to help Heroin Smuggling Scandal victims

July 5th, 2009 by Hina Safdar

Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf once again proves to be ‘influential’. He is going to help the distressed families by talking with Saudi “high” officials. That happened when a TV host (probably Jasmine Manzoor of Business Plus TV) recommend father of one of the lady arrested in Saudi Arabia to talk with Musharraf as last resort which actually worked. Musharraf assured Pakistani family that he would use his influence with the Saudi Arabian government to get them released.

The family was detained after Saudi customs officials found heroin obscured in the slippers of their luggage, which were provided as a keepsake by Al Huda travel agency’s agent, Syed Sarwat Hussain. The detained family has repeatedly claimed innocence, and insisted that their travel agent had given the slippers to them as it has been reported earlier at Chowrangi.

Travel agent, Syed Sarwat Hussain, is already in police custody in Karachi along with his wife Shafia. They surrender to police giving statement that the crime is being done “through them not by them”. It is strange that the efforts of government are not so impressive in this regard while Mr. Musharraf assured that he could help the detained Pakistanis. He is a strong and influential person in Pakistani politics still for sure. Where the government stands?

I cut and paste it from "The News" website and is it true?

Musharraf undertook 37 foreign trips and visited 80 countries along with his brigade of ministers, secretaries, family members and personal staff. The government spent about Rs1.4billion on these trips including one to USA to launch his autobiography “In the Line of Fire”, which cost the national exchequer Rs270million

With 'News' there is always the element of exaggeration, however, money was spent on his tours ... he is the Prseident of Pakistan who is suppose to utilize these trips to benefit Pakistan and if you ever look at the results of these trips then you will realized that these trips were beneficial to Pakistan.
