I must say I was referring to military as the army, based on the following hierarchy.
ISF (Iraqi Security Forces)
- Ministry of Defense, Military
- Ministry of Interior, Police & PMU
- CTS subordinate to prime minister bureau, ISOF
Iran has influence in the PMU, not so much in the other branches which are more influenced by the US. Especially CTS, Iran has no influence there.
is iraqi military a toothless tiger though? if not a huge pmu would not have needed to be mustered to save Iraq from isisI must say I was referring to military as the army, based on the following hierarchy.

His followers like donkey when they follow him even after this visit they still defend himIf seems that this fat man is an attention seeker. What does he reach with this action in this sensitive time?
He thinks he's foreign minister or something? This guy put his boots on grave of nimr-al-nimr and Yemeni children by this visit. He has no shame I think while clearly knows Saudi Politics in the region...
If seems he also forgot Saudi supported Saddam to kill and rape his family members in front of their eyes. They would rape sadr too if they could. Politics is not a game, it's not adventurism or gambling.
Showing independency or nationalism does not mean shaking hand with killers and enemy.
But salman I don't expect any Iraqi, especially not a well known shia cleric, being so stupid to go and to sit next to this smiling killer (salman), especially not in this time. I think there is something more behind this visit. Else he's taking risk of totally destroying his own reputation (in exchange for nothing, we don't see any deals signed and he has no authority to make deals in name of Iraqi government). Either he's such a big fool or there is more about this visit... maybe delivering a message or negotiating about something. Doing it in open, he's only playing with his own reputation and that of his movement. His followers like donkey when they follow him even after this visit they still defend him
Just like the followers of al saud,Qatar and UAE they still defend their rulers when they establish relations with Iraqi Shia government not long ago they called the Iraqi interior minister as irans man in Iraq and friend of solemani and they were insulting muqtada with different accusations and the followers of muqtada they were calling al saud and Saudi Arabia as terorists and wahhabists now they describe the saudi king as the servant of the two holy cities
The most popular at moment among them is PMU at moment and it is seen as the true defender.
Read: Arab nations of the GulfWith all due respects even prophet Muhammad (PBUH) called it Persian Gulf.
It is not true my friend, the US has the biggest Oil reserves, add to it Canada with one of largest Oil reserves.. The US is self sufficient and Canada is its well, if need be..We can do it.
I told you before, the problem is not American strength. Their military bases in Muslim countries are our barriers. They are highly dependent on Arabian oil, you know what i mean. We can make them economically collapse, that nuclear scum will be defeated in weeks. Despite their presence in all of Muslim countries, yet couldn't hurt Iranians. We are watching them in Persian gulf everyday buzzing them. We can defeat them, only if Muslim countries kick them out of their lands.
We can call it Muslim gulf after kicking Americans out of it and ignore historical facts, why i insist on Iran's influence and dominance in that gulf is USA's control over Arabian countries.
USA USA USA the roots of all problems in our region with it's lap dog Israel !
PMU popularity among the population is due to its foundation being a force of the people. AKA People's army, popular army, people's mobilization.
Army, Federal police, CTS and ERU have lead most operations against IS, not PMU. Actually to be more specific, CTS spearheaded all of them, except for Tikrit operation.
Nvm am a Pakistani native but I saw how CTS guys would leave their boots running off the ground. Unless PMU and Militias began assisting them with heavy strength.
When did they flee a battle?
CTS were holding Baiji oil refinery for over a year despite being besieged from all sides. They're more effective for SF/CT/Assault infantry role operations than any PMU unit by far.
PMU is not elite unit. During the initial days of IS enforcement CTS mostly lost its territories while the Baiji Oil refinery you're talking about. That was an exception.

After PMU re-enforced with CTS

I don't mean to degrade CTS here. They've done a great and tremendous job fighting a very long battle against bloodiest terror group ever. But if there weren't the Militias. CTS was for nothing.
PMU emerged to fill the gap created by the army and police's collapse. CTS did not collapse, their role never was to hold area's. Their numbers aren't large enough to act as holding forces for the entire country, alone they can't fulfill all tasks. PMU alone cannot fulfill all tasks, it's a joint effort on multiple levels.
And the pics in the link aren't CTS but regular army.
