What's new

Saudi Arabia, US sign MoU for corridor linking Asia, Gulf, Europe: Everything to know

No this is about Saudi ambition to produce and export Green Hydrogen worth 700 Billion Dollars. This is about decarbonizing and energy security the important bit is the construction of pipelines and the infrastructure for the production of green hydrogen. Saudi and U.S. are already building a green hydrogen production facility and have allocated land mass equal to the size of Belgium to the project.

Ok, interesting. If they are going to produce hydrogen, why do they need to link it with India?

.
lol this is the same route been going on for the past 3X decades ... whats new?
Israel

Exactly...Even if India is on board, but this project is entirely driven by SA ambition to be a key player in Asia by on boarding India long with it. So it is not like India is driving the project rather India is a joining the project which will be driven by Arabs in collaboration with West and their partners.
it puts pressure on China to participate

To interconnect Saudi and Indian power grids, along with Saudi investment in India's strategic reserves.

While its not being spoke about, I think food will be another major sector for investment. This current ongoing war, is now showing everybody why food independence or security is a must.

There is also a plan for future about Hydrogen fuel, where Indian might end up exporting as there is lot of work going on to scale up production of it.

.

Someone seems happy about this!

REAL TRADE CORRIDOR

China is economic super power with export rate of $3,7 trillion to compare with India ( only $767 billion )

China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) referred to as the New Silk Road, is the most ambitious infrastructure projects ever conceived........and launched in 2013 .... ( $1 trillion )

originally devised to link East Asia and Europe through physical infrastructure.

Turkiye is a bridge for the transition from Asia to Europe
Turkiye and Turkic World are at a key position in the Belt and Road initiative project of China

Middle Corridor through Turkiye and Turkic World = 7.000 km ( 10-15 days )

Northen Corridor through Russia = 10.000 km ( 15-20 days )

Ocean Route : 20.000 km ( 45-60 days )

The EU's imports from China totaled $672 billion in 2022

on the other hand
The EU's imports from India totaled nearly $70 billion in 2022

Turkiye , Azerbaijan , Kazakhstan exports to the EU : total of $165 billion
The EU's imports from Turkiye totaled $103 billion in 2022
The EU's imports from Azerbaijan totaled $32 billion in 2022
The EU's imports from Kazakhstan totaled $30 billion in 2022

India , S.Arabia , Israel exports to the EU : total of $134 billion
The EU's imports from India totaled $70 billion in 2022
The EU's imports from S.Arabia totaled $46 billion in 2022
The EU's imports from Israel totaled $18 billion in 2022

.
The real question is

backward India - S.Arabia can counter China’s BRI Project with IMEC project ?

-- China is now in some areas and by some measures a world leader in high-tech

-- China has become a centre of global production

-- China aims to establish a vast network of railways, energy pipelines, and highways to connect countries across Asia, Africa, Europe ........ and China has signed cooperation documents for the project with over 150 countries

China high-technology exports are products with high R&D intensity, such as in aerospace, computers, pharmaceuticals, scientific instruments, and electrical machinery

and in 2022 , high-technology exports for China was nearly $1 trillion

Broadcasting Equipment ($231B), Computers ($192B), Integrated Circuits ($158B), Office Machine Parts ($101B), and Telephones ($53.9B).

China is the largest exporter of technology

1 -- China nearly $1 trillion
2 -- Hong Kong $431 billion
3-- Germany $210 billion
4 -- USA $169 billion

What does China export the most to Europe?
The most exported manufactured goods were machinery & vehicles (52 %), followed by other manufactured goods (19 %) and chemicals (16 %). In 2022

Chinese Brands
Huawei
Xiaomi
Lenovo
Oppo
Chery
Geely .. The Chinese company which owns Volvo and Lotus
SAIC Motor
JAC Motors
Hisense
BYD
And many more

India : Only TATA
S.Arabia : NO

What does India export the most to Europe?

India's top exported products include petrochemicals, petroleum, gems and jewellery, plastic and footwear, pharma, auto and components, textiles, metals, agri, meat and sea food

India and S.Arabia never can match with China in technology

The EU's imports from China totaled $672 billion in 2022

on the other hand

The EU's imports from S.Arabia totaled $46 billion in 2022

India-S.Arabia dont have enough technology and production capability to match with China

It seems , India, the European Union, USA and Saudi Arabia declared economic war on China
Chinese leader Xi Jinping shouldn't be happy

Saudi is already producing and shipping liquid Ammonia the low cost method for transporting green/ blue hydrogen which is used to generate electricity in Japan. They plan to ramp up Ammonia production and supply it to Asia and Europe.

Because India wants Hydrogen, Western Carbon Emissions tax is going to penalize imports from countries with higher carbon emissions. Most western corporations already audit carbon footprint in their supply chain and source to reduce carbon emissions.

Alright, if that's the case. I just don't see hydrogen being a thing in the future in automobile, could be a possibility in industrial applications.

Well it depends, there is promising research on a solid state hydrogen fuel cell. If that materializes then I’d prefer a hydrogen fuel cell NEV to an electric vehicle any day, as would many. All the benefits of an electric vehicle with none of the down side.

I don't see massive investment in hydrogen transportation, storages and distribution infrastructure when there is viable electric vehicle. Millions os gas stations need to be upgraded, pipeline, storage, trucking shipping etc. Not happening.

Solid state hydrogen fuel cells don’t need any of the heavy infrastructure. You just buy a fuel cell, plug it into your vehicle and drive 600 miles. When the cell runs out you replace the depleted cell at a gas station in two minutes and then drive another 600 miles. The hydrogen is trapped inside the lattice structure of the solid and released on demand, there is no need for pressurized containers or pipeline to transport or store the hydrogen. The trapped hydrogen can only be released by a laser, so it is safe.

The concept is similar to your VHS or audio tapes you grew up with, the hydrogen is trapped in a light weight film in a spool and hydrogen is released when a section of the film passes under the laser.

You have to buy it and cost could be similar to petrol. EV you can charge at home even using your solar. Hydrogen in automotive has no future, I am pretty sure about that. All Japanese automakers specially Toyota in on a death row, by 2030.
