Today programme, on Boxing Day, which was guest edited by Pakistani-born writer Kamila Shamsie, who predicted the rise of a working class Asian home secretary in her most recent novel.

Mr Javid said: “I’m very much aware of the need for politicians to be careful with language as well as what they do.

“When it comes to gang-based child exploitation it is self-evident to anyone who cares to look that if you look at all the recent high-profile cases there is a high proportion of men that are of Pakistani heritage.”

He added: “There could be – and I’m not saying there are – some cultural reasons from the community that those men came from that could lead to this type of behaviour. For me to rule something out just because it would be considered sensitive would be wrong.”

Sajid Javid said he took the Rochdale grooming scandal personally because it involved his home town as well as men who were from a Pakistani background like him.

Mr Javid said: “I still go [to Rochdale] now and again because I have family there that I care deeply about.

“When I heard about – and there has been more than one case – grooming gangs where almost every individual involved is of Pakistani heritage... I can’t help noting the fact that Rochdale is a town that means something to me and I am also of Pakistani heritage.”

He added: “I think it would be true of anyone that if they heard about something – in this case bad – connected to a town that was something special to them, naturally that would be a thought in their mind.”

After a group of 20 men in Huddersfield were found guilty of rape and the sexual abuse of girls, Mr Javid tweeted: “These sick Asian paedophiles are finally facing justice. For too long, they were ignored. Not on my watch. There will be no no-go areas.”

Mr Javid also defended government action to strip offenders of their British citizenship. Asked if he was concerned about the possible lack of control over paedophiles if they returned to Pakistan, Mr Javid insisted that his responsibility was to citizens in the UK.

In August, the Court of Appeal upheld a decision to strip three members of a Rochdale grooming gang of their British citizenship.

Abdul Aziz, Adil Khan and Qari Abdul Rauf were among nine men jailed in May 2012 after being found guilty of grooming and sexually exploiting a number of young girls.

Hi there.

Listen to the video. I am not talking about a perception. I am merely understanding what the Minister said. The video (2nd one in the article) is quite self explanatory.

High proportion is not same as "most".High proportion of water in milk would be 10%, 20%, 30%. Anymore and its called "half" and definitely not 80% because then its water and not milk

The word in the video is majority. To quote you back:

I hope this logic and English helps with your comprehension issues?

Well I either you lack the skills to comprehend english or you are trying to project your mentality to a vide where it doesnt exist.
I can;t be bothered with watching a video right now but I will check it for you and get backt o you on that.

But I'm sure the descrption in the article above and below the video must be wrong, as the writer for the Independent was clearly not as good with english as you happen to be.

Then suggest keep your 'English' comprehension barbs to yourself? Watch it first.

Because you will find yourself being in a rather uncomfortable position.

The word is 'majority' of those 'convicted'.

Most paedophiles in UK are of Pakistani origin, says Sajid Javid

UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid on Wednesday said that a high-proportion of men involved in gang-based child exploitation in the country are of Pakistani descent, according to The BBC.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4 Today, Javid – who has Pakistani heritage – said that ignoring the ethnicity of abusers gives “oxygen” to extremists.

The home secretary had faced backlash for a tweet earlier this year referring to “sick Asian paedophiles”.

He said he wanted officials researching the causes of gang-based exploitation to leave “no stone unturned”.

20 men convicted of grooming and raping young girls in Britain

Asked by the British-Pakistani novelist Kamila Shamsie, who was guest-editing the programme, whether he was concerned that his comments may have fuelled hate crimes, he said he was “very much aware of the need for politicians to be careful with their language”.

Grooming gangs have recently been convicted in Huddersfield, Oxford, and Rotherham.

“There could be – I’m not saying that there are – there could be some cultural reasons from the communities that these men came from that could lead to this kind of behaviour,” Javid said.

The home secretary has called for research into the “characteristics and contexts” of gangs abusing children, arguing that ignoring issues such as ethnicity is more likely to fuel the far-right.

One-third of human trafficking victims are children: UN

“When I’m asking my officials to go away and do research to look into the causes of gang-based child exploitation, then I want them to leave no stone unturned and to look at everything,” he added.

“For me to rule something out just because it would be considered sensitive would be wrong,” he said.

“If I had ignored it, or been seen to ignore it, that is exactly what I think extremists would like to see in this country. It would give them oxygen and I refuse to do that,” he said.

Yuu dont understand english, nor the news context.

He was being questioned on the validity of his TWEET he made.

His words were 'if you look at recent high profile convictions....'

He was being asked to defend himself and his position, as a politician.

High profile.... yes 99% of cases are not high profile.

.
The claim is the report. There are two groups type 1 and type 2, did you get that bit? And the bit about the description of the groups. The claim is published here:

100 per cent of recorded Type 2 group offenders, who abuse children because of long-standing paedophilic interest, are white.

Okay. This link was not in your original post.

I clicked on the report url in the post but got

However, I am more intrigued by Type 1 cases.

Quoting

75 per cent of recorded Type 1 group abusers, who target victims based on their vulnerability, were Asian. The Office for National Statistics estimates that 7.5 per cent of the UK’s population are Asian.

  • “Type 1” group abuse involves targeting a victim, or victims, based on their vulnerability.
As far as I can make out, the Minister is talking about those involved in grooming kids for sexual exploitation?

So, how is his point debunked? Your own citation gives a figure of 75%?

Can you quote me, where I have failed to 'understand' the minister? Specifically?

My English was pretty okay, last I checked. Can always improve it, no doubt.

Sajid Javid defends deportation of grooming gang members

The home secretary, Sajid Javid, has defended the potential deportation of convicted grooming gang members to Pakistan even if it risks them reoffending.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Javid said stripping offenders of British citizenship would happen only in extreme cases involving individuals with dual nationality.

He was pressed on the issue by the programme’s guest editor, the Pakistani-British writer Kamila Shamsie, who pointed out that the lack of sex offender registers in Pakistan would make it easier for offenders deported from the UK to repeat their crimes.

Javid responded: “I’m the British home secretary. My job is to protect the British public.”

Seeking to clarify, Shamsie asked: “If you are sending members of grooming gangs to Pakistan, knowing that there is not a sex offenders registry, what they do there is not anything to do with you?”

Javid said: “My job is to protect the British public.”

In August, three members of a Rochdale grooming gang, who had Pakistani backgrounds, lost an appeal against a decision to strip them of their British citizenship.

Javid, who was born in Rochdale, was asked whether he took such cases personally. He said: “When I heard about grooming gangs where almost every individual involved is of Pakistani heritage, I can’t help noting that. But I can’t helping noting the fact that Rochdale is a town that means something to me and I’m also of Pakistani heritage.”

He faced criticism over a Twitter message he posted in October about “sick Asian paedophiles” in a Huddersfield gang. Javid told Today: “I’m very much aware of the need for politicians to be careful with language as well as what they do. When it comes to gang-based child exploitation it is self-evident to anyone who cares to look that if you look at all the recent high-profile cases there is a high proportion of men that are of Pakistani heritage.”

Ignoring this, he added, would fuel extremists. “Let’s not ignore it when we are trying to work out what might be the causes. There could be some cultural reasons, from the communities that those men came from that could lead to this type of behaviour.

“If I had ignored it, or had been seen to ignore it, that is exactly what I think extremists would like to see in this country. It would give them oxygen and I refuse to do that.”

Javid also highlighted the benefits of immigration. “It might sound strange coming from a home secretary – I’m a big fan of immigration and what it means for our country, in terms of how it makes us stronger … I see people all the time today and they really don’t care if their doctor is of Pakistani origin, what they care about is that they are getting a good service and these are people that they do really see as British. I do think society has changed very positively like that.”

He said Islam was compatible with British values. “There are many Muslims that I know who are very devout ... that are model citizens in terms of what they do their job, how they care for others.”

But he condemned those who saw as Islam as an ideology, saying he would make a distinction between “those who practise Islam and those who you might describe as Islamists, that are driven by an ideology, rather than practise their own religion in their own way with their own family and their own friends. They see it as their duty to spread to ideology and also to disrespect at the same time the laws of the country that they have chosen to live in.”

Agreed. I read the article. The original source, that was not accessible, so had posted the screenshot.

Again. How does the usage of the term 'Asian' (to obviate nationality based profiling) debunk his claim of majority of convictions being Pakistani origin? You have heard the claim on video, right?

How does a random one year sample which is dated, be representative of a study across a range, which you are using to claim him being incorrect?

I hope you understand that the statistics is not based on selective usage of data or comprehension of words. Or claiming that 'most' is not equal to 'high proportion' when the data is being presented in a finding based on Statistical Data set.

I am very sure you are able to understand, this being English, you know.

Cheers and have a great day.

Question, are browns worse because they make up 7.5% of the population and do 75% of the child crime?

LOOOOOOL

Just read this page.

https://fullfact.org/crime/what-do-...le-involved-sexual-offences-against-children/

No my dear @KhalaiMakhlooq question is, you called his claim incorrect. But are yet to give any data that proves it as such. You have posted data set which merely is a random data and does not prove his claim of 'majority' of 'convicted' felons being of Pakistani origin, wrong.

I hope you are able to understand the English. I, with my apparent poor comprehension skills, am able to.

You have a great day.

cheers.

Another uncle tom Pakistani trying to score points. The truth is most pedos in the UK are old white men and they are too powerful to even mess with. Some british pakis out of desperation for money try to join their gangs.
I made a whole thread about it but it got deleted maybe due to controversy or maybe...

Because they are not. The Child Sex Offence Register - if you are convicted of a crime, you go on there for life

How does a random one year sample which is dated, be representative of a study across a range, which you are using to claim him being incorrect?

Do you even know what a grooming gang is?
