Most in China Call Their Nation A Democracy, Most in U.S. Say America Isn't

Because it’s a paradox. One country doesn’t have election but the policies are meeting the people’s needs. The other country has elections but none of the policies promised are kept. One country if the policies fail the government is directly responsible. The other country if policies fail it’s always the other party’s fault.

If so why 83%, why not 100%? A typical brainwashed western brainless mentalty, anything that the west said must be true, anything that was not said by the west must be fake....
Can those 83% vote out Xi? Yes or No

China is not democratic by process but democratic in outcome in that most of the governments policies adhere to the wishes of the vast majority of its people.

Its more like with different stages of democratic process of elections, but not one man one vote by the entire population to directly elect the president and respresentatives.

No, and they also can not vote in an idiot into the office like in India people vote for like minded idiots, if the general public think cow pee can cure covid, they just vote in a like minded idiotic politician sharing this idea in.

Any examples of specific wishes that the general population insisted on and the Government suddenly implemented?

Or were most simply proposed by the government and the people simply agreed to it.

An example in the US could be public outrage at pollution leading to clean air/water acts.

Pollution, healthcare, public transportation, food safety, public security and terrorism, water shortage problems in north China region...so many, now tell me about examples of specific wishes that the general population insisted on and the Government suddenly implemented in states, start with gun violence, drugs, homelessness, racial discrimination...

China’s clean air campaign is bringing down global pollution, China reduces air pollution as much in 7 years as US did in 3 decades

Really? So you have specific examples of people asking the Government to implement a law? Not just your generalized wish list of items that you are pulling out of the air?

For example this little girl got Obama to sign a law at her request because she didn't like the word "retarded"

Can you list some examples of situations like this...as you make it sound like you have "so many" and it should be easy for you to find one.

We are all waiting...:coffee:

Vastly improved infrastructure, education, universal healthcare, public safety just to start. China has also vastly improved its pollution situation in the last 5 years.

So all this was initiated by the people instead of government officials? I'm looking for some specific examples of some civilians calling on government officials to fix some specific issue related to "improved infrastructure, education, universal healthcare, public safety".

Otherwise i can easily just say some sweeping generalization that it was the US public who asked for highways to be built, sending stuff into space, and looking into the power of the atom. The government then replying "hey what a great idea...we will take care of that"...and so it was done. Hoorah for our Government for listening to the people's will!!

All of these were the results of government policy. The government has a sophisticated system of collecting public opinion and identifying the issues of greatest concern.

Lol, political correctness? it's all empty talk and no actions, China is an action oriented country where social woe are being taken deadly seriously and fixed, US is a empty promises based country, where nothing can be really fixed, gun violence, drugs problems, homelessness, racial issues, police brutality.. for decades they just stay the same if not getting worse.

Well, consider that Democracy did not actually exist, no country in this world can claim theirs are democracy. If a country have a functioning government, that country is NOT a democracy, that is what 3 years of college in international politics has taught me.

On the other hand, US were technically NEVER a democracy, United States is a republic with democratic value. But the ruling and the establishment of ruling is never a true democracy. EU or UK style majority government are technically more democratic than ours Bi-Partisan government.

As for whether or not China is a democracy, sure, if democracy mean Leader is supreme.

I agree. Plus, the real democracy is actually not the best government in the world. Because the real democracy means the "the ruling of majority". In the real democracy, all nation policy will be voted by the people directly. It looks good from the outside, but not really the best form of governing a country. Because with the vote, the majority will always win, while the minority will always lose. You can't achieve a true social justice that way. Specially when your country is very diverse in everything. From ideology, religion, races, etc. I believe that your country will be split into several smaller countries, because the minority will feel that they don't get the social justice that they deserve.

I believe that to have good government doesn't mean that you have appease everything that what your people want, but what your people need. sometime, the government need to make an unpopular policy for the sake of the country. a good government also have to think about the need of the minority (ethnics, economy, religion, etc).

But it can't be happen if your country embrace the real democracy. With real democracy, all your country policy will be something that we call as "Populist policy". A policy that will waste money for the sake of the pleasure of the people. It also will only goes into the direction of the majority. If let say the majority is catholic, while the minority is muslim, I can be sure that the minority will be pressured into non existence.

The real democracy can also be translate into the politic of the masses. In a country where the politic become the greatest interest of her people, everyone will gathering masses. Religious masses, political party masses, some kind of specific ethic masses, etc. Because with having the masses, they can have more vote and power in deciding their country policy. And when everyone have a lot of masses, then the country won't be united anymore. Specially because the people behind those masses have their own agenda / political interest.

So why a country that ruled by the people directly won't be an utopia? the answer is simple. Because people are diverse. Not everyone are angel. There are a lot of asshole, bandit, mafia, etc in our land. And those people have their own agenda / interest that give the benefit for their own group. the problem is, it is those kind of people who usually can gather the biggest masses. And with the bigger masses, means that they usually can get what they want from the vote.

So what is a good government? It simple. A good government is a clean government who do everything they could for the sake of all people. Not only the "WANT" of the majority, but for what the people NEED most. The problem is, a good government is actually can only be considered as utopia in real world. Because there is no 100% good government in human history. Everyone have their own flaw.
