Well, that is a taking the right of a Muslim. And India being a secular government can't do that. Not killing a cow, or not eating it, is not an issue, but the belief behind it is what is important to a muslim. When a muslim does a qurbani of a cow, it remind's himself that this creature is a gift from god and it has no value other than it being a gift from god. If a muslim surrenders to some law banning cow killing it is basically surrendering his belief, that the cow has some important value other than being consumed. We can't have pork or alcohol or many other thing's because those are not allowed in our religion but this doesn't mean that we start banning them on the rest of non-muslim population just because we don't like it. It's basically violating right of another one. To you cow is important, pray to it to your heart's content but you don't have the right to tell any one else not to kill it, just because it's your god.

yes...nobody is attacked for killing cow in states where there is no ban on cow slaughter..to be honest it's very rare to kill someone even in the states where there is ban...it's only in rural areas of cow belt those incidents occur
