Its speculation, but the simple need is that the PAF wants more strike fighters. The Mirage platform is unparalleled as a stable strike platform..and makes a natural replacement for older mirages in our fleet. Much like the Jordanian F-16s...these aircraft can provide a much needed strike asset.

HOWEVER, I doubt that they will have much useful life left in them and whether the Indians(and ipso facto the French) will be comfortable with the sale. Additionally, the UAE M2K-9s are the only aircraft equipped to fire the "Black Shaheen" series of stand off missiles custom made for the UAEAF. So unless these weapons are retired( since the UAEAF is acquiring SLAM-ERs) these aircraft provide a potent stand-off strike capability that the Block-60 F-16 cannot match.

I just saw china too operates Mirage 2005.

How are they supporting that platform ?

Hi,

Older members can remember my stand on the M2K---which also created a lots of animosity between me & the TT, senior mods etc etc etc.

If pakistan ends up buying the M2K s Warnes mentioned---that would be feather in the crown. There is no secrecy about the M2K for pak---F 16 is a different story---pak can still find some more f16's without many people knowing bout the deal but not the M2K----too many people in the close proximity.

French would love for paf to get this aircraft----they would rather cherish the idea---because it would give them some leverge over the indians----as pakistan is out of the picture---the french have no leverge left over the indians---. They would like a little somthing to be able to squeeze the ballz of the indians.

Bottomline---french would rather see Paf get these aircraft than the indians.

If this can be confirmed, it indeed is a great news. Can someone confirm the number of planes involved here?

Yes I remember that argument. But if Alan Warnes is saying this, something is definitely cooking.

If we can get them cheap enough, why not? They are very good in Air to Air and Air to Ground role, would be much needed stop gap. Will complement the F-16s and JF-17s nicely, and since these are the Mirage 2000-9versions, they damn good. The thing is, just make sure we can get the associated spares and ammunition from the French.

Not to mention it was PAF i believe who helped UAE set up it's first Mirage squadron.
problem is inducting new aircraft sir . how many types we need ?????

Can't be confirmed not much information and too early just industrial sources/Alan's sources.

Oscar, why won't they have useful life left in them? They got those in late 80s and 90s, just like India did. And India is paying through the nose to bring it's 2Ks up to the standard that UAE already has, so they should have a 15 year life in them, much like the Jordanian F-16s. And PAF is known to push things beyond useful life as well. When the ROSE project was launched, most aircraft already had similar year/hours on them, yet it's been what......14 years and they still linger on? I know i am thinking that Eid has arrived too early, but then again, PAF should not let this opportunity go. OTOH, India getting these would be devastating.

Whenever the deal goes through(which wont be anytime soon IMO) The UAEAF M2k-9s would be in the exact state the ROSE Mirages were before purchase except with a little more stress on them. These birds were used extensively in training scenarios and have the wear on their wings(take an example of how wear and tear across the USAF F-16 fleet varies). But most importantly, the timeline for the deal depends a lot on the replacement for the UAEAF for the standoff attack capability. The Block-61 F-16s are not to be delivered until three years. Till then if the UAEAF has a smart leader, they will not let go of the capability that the Black Shaheen + M2K-9 provides.

Although in all honesty I see much more potential for these aircraft to end up with Qatar or India.

Any official source please..?

And is it confirmed we are buying these mirages or chances thatpak could buy these mirages?

Wow! Why would Alan Warnes reveal the Mirage 2000 speculation?

@Munir @Oscar @Windjammer @MastanKhan
If you look back, this saga has been swinging left and right for the last five years or so. Initially when these aircraft were put up for sale and Pakistan started discussions with UAE, .. India also jumped in as it already operates the type, the deal with India was considered all but done but the price proved the stumbling block as India was hoping to pick them up dirt cheap, i guess the deal fell through. It's worth noting that at one time PAF was virtually running the UAEAF, so much that at one point while trying to push the F-16 for the IAF MMRCA, LM, had to issue a statement addressing Indian concerns that PAF pilots were flying the UAE Block-60 Dessert Vipers.....PAF still has influence in UAE and rumour has it the Gulf State wants PAF to get the M 2Ks.

Qatar? why would they buy them, they just bought 11 billion $ worth of arms for their tiny country, why would they go for used M2Ks when they can get any aircraft they want?

I really do hope India is thrown out of the loop. Pakistan must offer them something they can't refuse, something more than hard cash which the sheikhs have in plenty.

That is precisely the reason. Qatar may want to keep its M2k fleet for longer and consider upgrades. However, India seems the most likely buyer. The 12 odd Qatar Mirages + the 36 or so that the UAEAF may have available sooner would boost its fleet to 80+ and allow it to raise two or three new squadrons of the type.

.
F 16 Block 61 to replace old dying mirage, is it true? I though US is not going to give anything to Pakistan.

.
This is a good news for PAF, hope we see these Mirages sooner. Pakistan should try to convince UAE to give these to us rather than India.
