What's new

Minhas Air Base

Pak shouldn't buy the mirage 2000-9s.. Better to finance the JF project or buy more F-16s.

If we can get them cheap enough, why not? They are very good in Air to Air and Air to Ground role, would be much needed stop gap. Will complement the F-16s and JF-17s nicely, and since these are the Mirage 2000-9versions, they damn good. The thing is, just make sure we can get the associated spares and ammunition from the French.

Not to mention it was PAF i believe who helped UAE set up it's first Mirage squadron.

Does it give us some extra or superior capability over an upgraded F-16? Wouldn't adding another type of aircraft cause issues like logistics, money etc... Can the French be trusted ?

In my opinion we should get some upgraded teens if available over mirages.

This is unexpected news, if possible than PAF should go for them UAE has around 60 Mirage 2000-9s. F-16s are better but if PAF doesnt buy these only other likely buyer is India. Realistically PAF cannot replace all of its F-7s and Mirages 1:1 so these would ease the load and prevent PAF from downsizing number of squadrons. Plus we would have them in inventory much faster. The Mirage 2000-9s which UAE has are excellent strike fighters.

I absolutely love the design of the Mirage its a magnificent aircraft, would be exciting to see if this iconic design is still flying with PAF beyond the Mirage 3/5s.
I wonder if it would be possible to replace the snecma with RD93MA giving us commonality of engines at least which would save up on the costs as well. The rest should be a possibility but not an ideal solution as far as I am concerned.

It can be done, but would not be cost-effective.

They're one of the latest variants of Mirage 2000. With the RDY-2 radar and associated weapons they can carry, they are very potent.

what i read from wiki , it says UAE ordered mirages for reconnaissance, and dont have built in camera and sensors !?
they have thales SLAR radar pod ..but they are not built it .. dont you think we would have some issues with parts ? what i see that they are the most potent mirages any nation is using so far

I think PAF might be trying mitigate the 'strike element'. These Mirages are excellent Strike aircrafts. If we aquire the UAE fleet, it would be cheaper, would take care of our Strike capabilities and also would mitigate threat posed to our coast by Mig-29K and Tejas N.

I think PAF will keep buying old F-16s too.

Hopefully PAF opts for these Mirages as well the 18 optional F-16 Block 52+s.

@Aeronaut I like M2k9s and if we get them what benefits we get? means we already have our own JF-17s which we will be upgrading and we are getting F-16s too although not the way we wanted, only benefit I see is that they can replace our aging mirages rapidly as UAE have 60 of those and they may replace on ratio of 1:2, another thing is they can carry storm shadows and some real good stuff which will give good strike capability but still spare parts will be big issue in maintaining them for long time as hand full of nations use them and there are not in production.

Wow! Why would Alan Warnes reveal the Mirage 2000 speculation?

Munir Oscar Windjammer @MastanKhan

You forgot me I was riding Mirages all the time rest of PDF threw me out:D...

Whether revelation true/false I told you people Mirages are lifeline of PAF...still have questions many of 30+ Years Non Rose mirages are flying beyond their designated life where are spares coming from or did Mirage rebuild factory manufacture in house parts i leave it to people to think.

India is going to operate Mirage 2000s for the next 15 Years they are not just upgrading those 50 Mirages for $40m a pop but for a reason....now how do we suppose they would be operating them without spares for the next say 15-20 Years.

Back in the day the question was if the UAE is going to let them go. Now they would, as they have bought the BLK60s and are buying newer Blk61s.

So either they will continue to fly Mirage 2000 or retire them, latter seems better since F-16 force is enough for them. The question is if they will be willing to sell to Pakistan and not India, and at what cost?

Whether useful? Pretty sure. We know the planes better then anyone. Handy? Well we could dump some 60'era Mirages 5 and 3... Costs... Maybe there is a trade of boots...

2000-9 is comparable with block42. Not 52+.

But I doubt we could afford upgrading them like Indian Airforce... It will cost us more then a few billions... So it is tricky. If we can get upgrades for JF17 (do not forget the French screwed us while we finished French avionics deal for JF17) a la Rafale... Still I would think twice about Mirage 2000. Expensive maintenance. No spare parts besides expensive French... So nice if 15-25 million a plane but I doubt we will get them for that.. There is no mirage 2000 production line... It will become headache.
