Medical Advice

Thanks for the link. I was reading about this doctor who used to operate in the same hospital before moving his team to this place

Liver Transplant Surgeon, Dr. A. S. Soin, Liver Transplant Doctor, Liver Transplant Specialist

I am very positive that somebody from within the family will be ready to become living-donor (and hopefully I will have the courage to become one) -- but just in case is there any chance of arrangement for donors in place of something else?

Zakii - I am not sure - there is a helpline. How about you call them? It should be in the morning and they can advice you better. Also why don't you call this hospital where this doctor A.S.Soin is working as well?

As for someone in the family to become a donor, there is no issue with the donor - the liver grows back. They take 1/3 of the liver from the donor and it grows for both the patient and the donor in 3-4 months or something.

I am also worried that i don't have a Pakistani passport. I will need to request for the Pakistani passport before applying for visa from Pakistan. If I apply from UK they may not issue the visa to me

Zakii - Explain it to the consulate people in UK - They might consider it on medical grounds. Make a try mate - It will not hurt the chances.
Also ask the hospital people about visa arrangements as well. They might be able to help you.

Zakii Bro I am very sorry to hear about this - I hope your dad recovers.

:: High Commission of India in Islamabad ::

It says,"Medical visa is issued for medical treatment in reputed hospital on the basis of appointment letter from doctor"

The minimum processing time for visa applications is 15 days.

I don't know if they give special treatment to medical visas. You might want to contact the Indian high commission and confirm that. Also if there is no certainty of getting a visa, I don't know if you'd like to wait for 15 days. Why don't you consult your doctors in Pakistan and see what they have to say on this. They will know better about these issues. I think it might be easier for you to get a Chinese visa.

@Zakii - just went through the thread start - Hope your father gets well soon.

I wasn't able to find a Chinese hospital on Internet. The only hospital I found was The Tianjin First Central hospital but they don't have a website or any contact details.

Maybe Chinese members would be able to help you with that. Open a thread in the Chinese section, contact them via pm, Chinese Dragon etc. Hong Kong maybe another option.

Zakii - mate - My boss is a Chinese American from Tianjin and another colleague who sits next to me is a Chinese(dunno where he is from in China) - I will find out whether my boss can help find information for you first thing tomorrow morning(U.S time) - Anyway I will shoot off an email to him tonight. Let me know what else you would need for that hospital besides website and contact information.

By the way have your doctors in Pakistan recommended liver transplant?

Liver Transplant in India
Liver transplants in India cost only a fraction of what they do in the US. Despite the fact that the country offers the most advanced facilities and treatment options, the surgery costs are greatly reduced and the procedure costs anywhere between US $40, 000 - $60, 000. Also, there is virtually no waiting time. Leading surgeons perform liver transplants at the world renowned hospitals which are well equipped and technologically advanced. The doctors are highly qualified and much experienced, as is the staff. Also, when it comes to liver transplants, India has many successes to its credit, including liver transplant surgery in India for the youngest child and the first combined liver-kidney transplant in India.

For foreigners, only living donor liver transplants are facilitated, which requires them to bring a healthy, willing donor (a family member) with them when they come for a transplant. Cadaveric transplants are not practical for foreign nationals and also, the success rate for the former is much more.
