There is a big difference in remembering a country's past defeats and victories and wallowing in it and using it to justify aggression against one's neighbours. We were defeated 170 years ago by the British so now we are going to attack our weaker neighbours so we can feel good about ourselves. As for Pearl Harbor, American money helped rebuild Japan after her defeat. The Americans weren't oppressors of the Japanese and they did not defeat Japan to conquer it.
