Thiruvananthapuram:United Democratic Front has decided to impose partial prohibition on liquor in Kerala from April 2015. Bars will be allowed only in five star hotels in Kerala.

Chief Minister Oommen chandy and Muslim league have been pushing for prohibition. Bar licences will not be issued for 418 closed bars and licences will be cancelled for remaining 312 bars.

Kerala government is planning total prohibition in the state in next 10 years.

Its going to hurt kerala govt. Where will your govt get money from then because alcohol gets you lot of money.
its not as if kerala will go dry, people will smuggle liquor and get profit.

I understand some mallus pointed out, drunkardness and anti social behaviour due to that, is a menace. To discourage that kerala govt should increase tax on retail sale, and encourage people to buy in pub/bar only. A part of revenue generated should be used to enforce ban against spurious liquor sale.

Hey for once there is good news from Kerala and its kongresss government after all the bad news abt Vande matram and stuffs...
I quite frankly will not care if its due to UDF or MuslimLeague or whomso ever....At the end of the day its really good and I appreciate this decision....
Alcohol is the most important cause of rise in violence and high time someone took a look in to this...

Hopefully the same thing is implemented in Tamilnadu...I know it rakes in billionsss of $$$ to government but I do really hope these things are done in TN too...

Everyone accuses Kerala and Keralites as the people who has the highest per capita alcohol consumption..... And their accusation is 100% true.

When a section of society (KCBC, Sasthra sahithya parishath, to name few) fight to remove this menace, suddenly this becomes religious, and political........

Meh i see where this support for Prohibition in the land of Mallus coming from, The salafi/Wahabi ideology which has taken firm root in Kerala.You people were sleeping all the time, now wake up to their majority, they will first start with prohibition.
Love Jihad- Full fledged state/political support for it.
Dress code- well that is already there,Muslims insist their school teachers wear burkha or green dress .
Blasphemy laws-One professor lost his hand for it in past, in future death by stoning.
Ban on Music,TV,Entertainment- to follow soon.
Sharia law- To be enforced in the end, as they don't want to draw too much attention in initial stage.

Let the Prohibition be passed this is the initial phase once it is implemented,the others will soon follow.
