Mectron's MAR-1 to be operational in Pakistan next year:

Robert Hewson, Rio de Janeirio:

2013-04-18

Brazil's Mectron will start deliveries of operational MAR-1 anti-radiation missiles to Pakistan next year.

Under a contract announced by Brazil and Pakistan in 2008, Mectron has now completed MAR-1 integration with Pakistan's Mirage III/V aircraft and has also handed over the mission planning, logistics, and support equipment, plus MAR-1 training rounds and simulators to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). However, some final development testing remains to be done with the missile in Brazil. Mectron says once this is completed the way will be clear to deliver fully operational 'warshot' missiles to both Brazil and Pakistan.

"MAR deliveries will begin next year and we have to deliver to Pakistan next year," stressed one Mectron source, pointing to the company's contractual obligations. In December 2008, Brazil's Chamber of Foreign Commerce ( Camara de Comercio Exterior ) approved export funding guarantees for the sale of 100 MAR-1 missiles to Pakistan.

Speaking at the LAAD 2013 defence exhibition, held in Rio de Janeiro from 9-12 April, a senior official stated : "The plans for Brazil and Pakistan are progressing in parallel, but Pakistan is pressing harder because it needs the missile more urgently. In Brazil the FAB [Força Aérea Brasileira] wants to operate the MAR-1 on its A-1M (upgraded Embraer AMX) aircraft and is waiting for that aircraft to be properly established in service so it can do the missile integration work in one pass. For the PAF, the Mirage integration is already finished; that work started in Brazil and was completed in Pakistan."

Mectron has integrated the MAR-1 on the Mirage using a stand-alone weapon controller with a separate computer that is independent of the aircraft's other systems. Mectron notes that while the PAF also plans to integrate the MAR-1 on its JF-17 Thunder lightweight fighters, that work has not yet been placed under contract. "We are not dealing with the Chinese today," said a Mectron official, adding that the Mirage integration work did not involve Dassault or any contact with France.

In November 2012, China's LOEC exhibited a new anti-radiation missile, the LOEC LD-10, that it said was intended to equip aircraft including the JF-17. A Mectron official commented: "We know China is developing an ARM, but we don't know if it works. We know that our missile does."

I would rather chose LD-10 over mar-1 because of its superior specs.

MAR-1 being tested

and Sancho, this Pic is PS

and Aeronaut, the pic of blue MAR-1 we saw in IDEAS 2012 lying beside JF-17, it was training round

Got it from a Brazilian site, but the article is from last year:

JF-17 Thunder No. 26 Squadron Black Spiders armed with Brazilian MAR-1 ARM

Integration confirmed for Brazil's MAR-1 missile

Robert Hewson Air-Launched Weapons Editor - London

can confirm that Pakistan has taken delivery of the Brazilian MAR-1 anti-radiation missile and is integrating the weapon on its PAC JF-17 Thunder multirole combat aircraft as well as upgraded Dassault Mirage III and V ROSE fighters...

...In 2008 a MAR-1 order from Pakistan for 100 missiles valued at EUR85 million (USD126 million) was announced by the Brazilian government, which provided export credit support for the deal. Reports from Pakistan suggested that deliveries started in 2009.

@Mafia

MAR-1 is in our inventory. It may not have been integrated yet as the first two squadrons replaced were ground attack focused,so PGMs were integrated first.

For SEAD and DEAD , we have vipers carrying HARMs for now.

Aeronaut,

I think we had this discussion that HARMs were declined to PAF.

I wouldn't call that 'waste of millions' necessarily. Under sanctions and without the West offering any credible platform or having the ability to develop in house, you kind of need to keep your existing fleet operational. That also means spending money. The cost benefit is to be able to defend your country!
Now there is the industry that's started and with further upgrades to JFT in Block II and III configurations, it is your home made system. You can produce it, enhance it and not worry about anyone else as much as you like. So that's definitely a massive shift from where the Pakistani aviation industry used to be just 13-14 years ago. Good things happen slowly and economy, infrastructure and learning to build complex systems happens slowly. But the results are far reaching once they are realized.

Oh I am not talking about the ROSE upgrades.. those were a smart move.
I am talking about sub-standard Chinese RWR systems installed previously.. and I am talking about certain fellows who made millions supplying parts on "fair" tenders for the Mirage fleet..and a whole bunch of misdemeanors in Air defence and even on little things such as Tyres.. Even the good old Mushaq isnt spared from a list of corruptible Risalpur and Kakul graduates.
Think of the JF-17 complex proposed at Nawabshah?? Is diversification of production the only reason for the PAF to spend its allocated money to buy land there??

@Aeronaut.. Its not a bashing gig... its the general pattern we face from the hundreds.. and you know I mean hundreds of false-flag posters... and to add to that the usage of an anonymous proxy.. is an automatic alarm trigger for old hands.
If the gentleman had read through older posts, it would come to light that I was the one of the few stating again and again the reality of what the block-II(batch-II) was while many other members were on about stealth noses and IRST..
There's patriotism and there's calling a spade a spade...

I think the idea IS that the JF-17 is to be integrated with the MAR-1.. but the mirage fleet will get priority since the JF-17 has been pushed back in schedule along with the urgency that came after the 2008 events. There was a need for a SEAD capability urgently and the best system for that was the Mirage ROSE series.

Bravo for saying that Sir @Oscar. We would do well to understand that the two things are not mutually exclusive. Only a true patriot calls a spade a spade.

Unfortunately.. when one does do so without crying "Im a patriot".. one is labelled a non patriot.. an Indian.. and so and so forth.. by those waving the flag of patriotism..

On the JF-17 for eg... with all the excuses for delays and what not.. nobody wishes to admit the simple truth..:
Pakistan is broke, its Air force is BROKE..
Ill parrot this again since this is from the horse's mouth when it comes to the JF-17..
there isn't enough cash to repay just the interest on the loans taken from various sources for the JF-17 and other hardware.. forget about even paying off an installment.

The ironic thing is that money respects no nationality, only those who have it.
