JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 5]

Hours before the escort, 2 JF-17s from No.16 Squadron took off to arrive at another PAF Base, where 4 jets from No.26 flew with them. They likely had a small patrol in the skies till the plane arrived, since some members stated that they saw JF-17s fly above. Even this way, 3 drop-tanks are not required.

Maybe it was a formal uniform which the JF-17 must wear, However, if you look at the previous visit, where the B747 was escorted by 2 Mirage and 2 JF-17, they had only 1 drop-tank under their belly. Surprise fact is that, so did Mirage. It must have been to keep the arrangement symmetrical.

these drop-tanks are kept as reserve for any emergencies.....simple really.

Regarding JF-17 escort mission, several questions comes in mind, escort mission was hardly 30-45 minutes but why JF-17 flew with all three drop tanks? wasn't internal fuel sufficient for 3 or so hours?

But if need arised, wasn't two enough? there are some gaps in this scenario which I'm unable to comprehend

Or JF-17 is more short legged than it is led to believe?

That pretty much sums that up. There's always Plan-B :)

I am sure INSHA ALLAH, we will going to see or hear that JF-17 Block-IIs along with its dual seat production will start in 2013.

And may be assembly of WS-13.

Newly produced JF-17 start life in Kamra under supervisor of PAC and other staff and experts, the 8 SBP aircraft are based there from time to time, reason is because if they find my problems they are close to production facility and any issues can be resolved, same happened to No 16 squadron when No 26 squadron left for its home in Peshawar and stand on its own feet

Right now the last lot production units to number 50 (serial 12-150) are in Kamra under going similar testing while at the moment I believe block II is under production at PAC, all block I units were finished in 2012

Block II has aerial refuelling and integration with AWACS, no WS13 or twin seated for Block II of of yet

Once the Block II are ready for Sqaudron training at Minhas the last lot of JF17 Block I up to units 50 will join a new squadron or be added to 16 and 26, but I see 3 Sqaudrons per block which means 9 Sqaudrons (8 for the PAF and 1 for the PN) for the three block of 150 aircraft

I don't understand why are you people so hell bent on WS-13... It is a **** poor Engine.

The current resource of Chinese aircraft engine WS-10A Taihang to overhaul is only 300 hours. Progress High Yield and other characteristics are, but slow.

The situation with the engine WS-13 Taishan, which is to replace the Russian RD-93, is even more complex than Taihang - engine life WS-13 is less than resource of WS-10A which is approximately double.

-Deputy Director of Shenyang Institute of engine, Zuhai, November 2012.

Sorry for Translation Part... Hence If the Deputy Director of Shenyang Institute of Engine is taken seriously the MTBO of WS-13 is around 150 hours. About Half or less than Half of RD-93 being used by PAF on their JF-17... other than that other performance parameters also considered poor.

LOL ... i may require a bailout to sample PDF members :hang2:, but you can afford one any time. :enjoy:
Thanx

Off course, how do i go about obtaining one, I'll wear it when i go for jogging.
I was once wearing a PAF cap and people were asking me if PAF was in town for the festival.

If I'm not mistaken I think the first picture says 12-143 on the tail, which means the production in 2011 was smaller than in 2010

In 2011 I think they built around 12-14 units whereas in 2010 it was more like 16-18

Also means in 2012 they completed the 50 by building probably a half dozen units just to finish off the Block I production

I believe Block II is under production inside the PAC facility

I am also not sure but I think it might be happening as well.

Block-IIs should have:
1. Composites
2. Advance Avionics and Sensors(FLIR and IRST pod under right air intakes)
3. Conformal Fuel tanks along with a retractable In Flight Refueling Probe
4. Local Assembly WS-13(100K.N with TVC)
5. Dual Seat version.

INSHA ALLAH I am sure will be present by the Grace of Almighty ALLAH.
Ameen.
