This camo might be used on aircraft dedicated for night missions ... Visibilty will not be a problem then

Just add in a pressure horn, and you won't require the visibility as well. You may fire an Igla towards it while lighting up your cigarette.(Just be careful to not to show the fire to IR missile)

BTW, it gives a real "badmash" look.

IFR is actually not a big issue at the moment. JF-17s are not going for long-range strike missions anytime soon.

IFR is not only needed for deep strikes, but also for extended endurance in CAP missions for example, or if the wing wetstations are occupied with heavy weapons like C802s. The smaller centerline fuel tank alone won't offer any of that, which is why that is an important capability. The simple fact that PAF operates IL78s alone makes that clear too, otherwise they simply would have chosen IL 76 for transport roles only.

When you have limited budget you need to prioritize what is needed. Right now we need to get JF-17s out of the factory and in the hands of the pilots. We have ageing Mirage and F-7s that really need replacing. If PAC is not opting of IFRs right now, there must be a reason. I am not saying we don't need IFRs. All i am saying is that the minimum time spent in structural modification for JF-17 (whether retractable IFR or permanent) can be spent on other tweaks. Right now JF-17 needs a powerful Radar, counter measures and more hard points. The current on station time for JF-17s with three drop tanks is sufficient to cater within Pakistan's limited airspace and the CAPs and CASs that require it.

This is a curious logic -- when talking IFR, you guys come up with "we got no money" and in the same breath you say we need a better engine, better avionics and throw in a better radar -- How does that make sense? Cap with three drop tanks? and it can still carry weapons? Why not just say you need a better ship? OF course IFR is necessary

Admitting we need a better ship would mean negating all the hype of the present project. Who wants to do that?

Guys,
I'm quite intrigued by the take off comparison between these aircraft.

As can be seen the F-16 has it's leading and trailing edges pointed downwards whereas the JF-17 doesn't apply the same method.

Interesting - not armed - not trusted, but then who can be blamed for not trusting them

Oye duffar, they are providing an escort something in the same context as guard of honour...why would they need to be armed and if that's beyond your comprehension, check this image of Russian fighters actually intercepting an airliner.....oops no weapons. :cuckoo:

Is that an intercept?? Says who? What kindof an intercept is done without weapons?

translation of an interview with JF-17 chief designer Yang Wei:

"Fierce Dragon" fighter with air refueling capability plans to develop two-seater model
- Interview with "Fierce Dragon" fighter architect Yang

People, Beijing, May 23 (Reporter Yang Mu) should be invited by the Government of Pakistan, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in the morning local time May 22 arrived in Islamabad, Noor Khan airfields, began an official visit to Pakistan. News came out, immediately aroused worldwide attention.

"Fierce Dragon" aircraft is the China Aviation Industry Group belongs CATIC, Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation and Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute and other units jointly developed with the Pakistan Air Force, a new generation of single, single-seat, multi-task light fighter, the two countries important cooperation project, known as a successful example of cooperation between China and Pakistan. Pakistan Air Force gave it a famous name - JF-17 "Lightning (Thunder)".

People: "Fierce Dragon" Is there plans to develop two-seater?
Yang: We have plans to develop two-seater,and there are plans to develop series models.
People: stealth performance will further improve?

Yang: "Fierce Dragon" itself is not the usual sense of the whole stealth aircraft, but considered in the design of its stealth performance, such as front edge of the wing sweep angle, S bend inlet, etc., which are better for stealth . In addition, the "Fierce Dragon" in three generations of machines in the head is relatively small, their stealth is good. The future will take low-cost stealth measures to further improve the stealth ability, but do not develop academic sense, usually defined on the stealth aircraft.
People: Will the "Fierce Dragon" engine development progress?

Yang: the engine itself, the "Fierce Dragon" fighter and the National engines together all major development, "Fierce Dragon" engine development, in accordance with established plans being made considerable achievements.

Does cone structure looks similar in both pics? Albeit first pic is much older

JF-17 Block 2 will have mid-air refueling capability and upgraded avionics.
The third squadron in addition to the 16th and 26th squadrons would be established soon.
The current production rate is around 16-18 per year. If manpower increased, the rate could be raised up to 30 per year.
