ISLAMIC CENTER IN KARACHI TURNED INTO CINEMA

Then seemingly every single Masjid in Pakistan is being misused? But I still find it inappropriate. It was labeled as a "Masjid". And the government should look over this matter, but when once the mosque is build. We gotta respect it.
And the second thing he mentioned is so true.
We have no obligation to respect, for example, the Lal Masjid.

This center was not completely disfunctional. There was a Library before Cinema with huge books collection and in evenings it was being used as a wedding lawn.

It was owned by City Govt. and city govt. converts the same to Cinema ...

Waise us Ilaqe mein aur 55 masajid hain lekin sab khali ... Pehle jo masjid khali hain un ko bhar liya jaye tou behtar hoga

You have it the other way around. Mosques are empty because our understanding of our religion is superficial. But to have a deeper, more substantial understanding, we need knowledge and inspiration, which in turn can be gained from credible scholars, libraries, knowledge of our place in a historical and contemporary context, and even cultural activities.

People will not go to mosques unless they really want to, and they will only want to if the urge comes from within, not because of external pressure. Empty mosques are a symptom, not the cause of the problem.

Al-Markaz e Islami

It is not correct to convert, destroy a masjid. Once a masjid will always be a masjid, so long as the land was not taken by force, or a Church forcefully converted to a Masjid. Other than that, it will remain a masjid forever.

As I said earlier, why only converting to cinema. Absolutely fine to convert into school, kids activities, and list goes on. :)

It depends on the needs and demands of the local area and who owns the building to pay for the conversion. Let market forces determine that process.

Why are you so hell bent on justifying why a mosque should be re-purposed. The OP is on an Islamic center into a commercial cinema.

Too much radiation? J/k don't take it on your heart!:-)

Let market forces work out the purposes of a building. It is only a pile of bricks and stones and stuff.

Once a masjid will always be a masjid

Who says that?

Lal Masjid is a different scenario all together. The cleric & management have gone off the deep end, and IF the respected scholars & judges think it falls into the category of Masjid Darrar, then so be it.

Chaloooo. Given a place name 'masjid' and a 'masjid' whole different things. But once Rasool Allah (SAW) said don't call their God 'false god' so they won't call your true God a 'false god'. It teaches us to respect their. religion. So is in this case we should take action against any evil activity taking place inside the mosque rather saying no point to respect it :)

There has NEVER been any approval by Sunni or Shia scholars for the actions undertaken by the Najdis. If you're qouting their actions then why stop there? Quote ISIS/AQ as well. Please don't pick and choose when it suits you.

The other opinion is held by those who are running the cinema. :D

We have no business with hypocrites.

@Ammara Chaudhry @Azad-Kashmiri @Khafee While I don't know the fiqh ruling about the repurposing/destruction of a mosque, was this strictly speaking a mosque?

I understand there are certain conditions that must be met before a building is classified as a mosque. If you are not sure, I would suggest that you err on the side of caution and not commit an answer.
