Is our success dependent on english ?

Pakistani qoum mentally aik ghulami ki state may hai! British na apna culture hum peh impose kia aur society ko rung zabaan aur dualat peh divide kia! Ajj bhi yehi taqseem hamari society may raij hai...hamari schools may bachun ko ilm daynay say zyada angrezi seekhanay peh mehnat hooti hai!! Hamari offices aur cooperations may angrezi fuur furr bolnay wallay ko samjhe aur aqal say zyada tarjeeh di jaati hai!! Koi bhi taraqi yagta qoum ko dekh lain us na ilm ko apni zabaan may translate kia kyon keh madri zabaan may seekhna aur samjhna asaan hoota hai aur insan comfortable hoota hai! Lakin hum ghulam angrezi seekhnay keh liye apna adha demagh zaya kar daytay hain!

My dear "Urdu" can also be called continuation of colonial policies because the fact is Pakistan just made Urdu as national language, It was actually the British who imposed the Urdu in region (Which is Pakistan today) and by imposing Urdu, British pushed back the region (Punjab of that time) in literacy which was much ahead then rest of India even in female literacy rate. There is no doubt that there is no match of education in native language (provided material is available) but Urdu is not native language .... period.

i wish pak switches to Urdu trust me it causes so much confusion in our society that we are abandoning our language. People in pak think it cool to speak english and doesn't even suit them with their accent. Urdu is so expressive and would be better for future generation. Try speaking to your elders in english they will be confused and you too will be confused when they speak urdu.

Yes urdu is so sweet language . I love using it in its pure form . Now its a different case that many people don't understand what I said .

If it's colonial language then why did our ancestors fight for its status in india ?

Please read urdu hindi controversy in india , you'll know how hard we tried for its status and how it made us reach to our 'manzil '.

It was just respect of this language that made us brave enough to fight for a separate land.

Your ancestors also fought for Sindhi language and got Sindh separated from Bombay Presidency for "Native Language"? Urdu becoming part of religious politics later on doesn't change the fact that it was British who actually imposed it on Punjab state (KPK was part of it at that time) to unify their colonial rule.

We didn't got separate country because of Urdu language, if it was the case then East Pakistan wouldn't have resisted to imposition of Urdu.

Urdu is poetic language while English is necessary today for sciences.

Learn as many languages as you can.

@LoveIcon chachu, fighting for Punjabi over Urdu is stupid because neither one is useful in science today.

depends on what you end up doing but English is the language of the world, of science, technology, business. If you want to go up in the success ladder, proficiency in English can help a lot (lot more than knowledge in your subject). It should not come at the expense of local language, we are very much capable of learning more than one language.
The fact that you have mastered a foreign language should separate you from those who did not, and you will be rewarded for that. I know there is a class bias(rich people can afford an education which enables better English proficiency) but thats the way it is.

The fun fact - Literacy rate of Punjab 160 Years ago was higher than today's rate.
literacy rate of west punjab 160 years ago(or combined punjab)?

I am an Urdu speaker myself but I will eventually forego this useless language for my own benefit and that of my future generations. Only emotional fools have romantic association with culture and language etc. For me, economic benefits and social mobility in a globalized world carries more weight than the cultural traditions of previous generations who were nothing but losers. I am all willing to let my elders "twist and turn in their graves" while my future generations leave this cultural baggage.

Success doesn’t depend on English. However being multi-linguistic has benefits. But it doesn’t define success. Hard work and determination does.

Just goes to prove you are a close minded sell out like current politicians of Pakistan today.

That's a lie fed to people. Success in social context depends on how other people perceive you.. and in vast majority of roles you will not be rewarded for hard work and determination.
Because it depends on perception, a major factor in success is how you look, dress, interact with others. Talent comes next and then probably hard work.

Urdu like English seems to a bridge language in pakistan, which helps if you are working in a multi-lingual group. Its not a crazy difficult language to learn for pakistani so I dont understand why you have to choose between urdu and English.
