Is our success dependent on english ?

I see ..
Being from UK can you read and write urdu ?

I can read just abit of urdu. I wish i concentrated harder but coming back from school and then going to mosque learning Arabic then Urdu is just exhausting. What you really learn is torture, where you learn over time how to endure pain, sometime you can wear two pants so the stick doesn't hurt much across the a ss. ouch bamboo stick, than murga torture with a brick on your back.

No , I'm a sindhi speaker from Quetta .
Strange. So we have a native Sindhi talking of English being imposed when Urdu itself is a alien language to your soil. Do I see a logical disconnect here? If anything if you were true to the concept of "nativity" then you should be paddling for Sindhi - as some people are I believe in Sindh.

it depends on where you are. Generally speaking in sub continent or US/UK fluent english means high status or wealthy. So ppl who speak fluent english end up moving up the ladder.

If you move to non-english speaking countries where there mother tongue is used like germany ,japan ..etc it is not a big deal. The reason being they are ok with ppl speaking average english as they themselves are in same state.

I have seen places where ppl who barely speak english not having any issues as these places have more diversity and it is generally accepted behavior. ppl wont discriminate you bcos of your language skills.

But if you go to places where english is the only language and ppl are homogenous you are generally looked down even if you can speak english well but with an accent.

Definitely our success depends on English. The native languages must be thrown away into garbage. Urdu should only be used temporarily till the time our entire nation learns English. After that, Urdu must also thrown away. These languages are useless for scientific knowledge and international communication. We must get rid of these languages.

I will certainly not teach my kids Urdu or any other native language. I know it will cause butt hurt to my extended family but they can go to the dogs for all I care.

It's not all about learning the language. It's the accent and pronunciation of words as well. I've heard, in China, that they are teaching young kids there to speak English with a normal western style accent so they'll be able to comfortably communicate with westerners in business, in the workplace, in meetings and such.

But in my opinion it's not all that necessary. The Japanese in Japan don't know perfect English but yet they are successful.

Overall it's more of perk than a necessity.

Why should I , I'm not a provincial person . I'm a patriotic pakistani that only cares about pakistan. Provinces , mother tongue is very unimportant to me . I believe in giving equal rights to all provinces but pakistan's interests are still higher for me than a province's.

Between , in our provinces education is being taught in their native languages in some places and urdu is a second language . Sindhi, balochi are being used in educational institutes as school languages. So they're not deprived of their linguistic rights , urdu still can't be called 'imposed ' on sindh because it has given space to the native languages of our provinces .

Every country in Europe educates people in it's native tongue; not one has 'English as the language of education'. This includes the sciences. Every single educationalist in Europe believes that a child should be educated in its own language.

In countries more advanced than Pakistan, like Japan and Korea , virtually nothing is in English. Outside of the Capital, English is unknown.

Any need for English is satisfied by teaching English 'as a foreign language'.

English is a strange language, the darker skinned a people, the more important it becomes.

Don't quote me, we've been through this drama many times.

It's not about English or language A or B or C.

It's about the thirst for, and acquisition of knowledge. A wise person will learn everything that they need to succeed in their profession. If that means learning a different language to get the relevant material, so be it.

I learnt Arabic because I wanted to pursue religious education.

I dabbled in German because I wanted to understand the world of German Banking industry.

I learnt Urdu to get to the classical secular and religious treasure house of scholars from the sub-continent.

I learnt Punjabi to connect to my grandmother (rh) who told us the most wonderful stories of her and families history. It was all in the pursuit of knowledge.

In conclusion, success isn't measured by the learning of English, success or should I say striving for success means learning every language you need, to succeed.

Incorrect, I have seen german documentation bcos the software was developed in germany. The company was headquartered in US. Only when you start using your language the words will get developed. Again in technical documentation language is not important. It is diagrams, numbers, charts ..that convey the message.

Russians were as successful as americans in space race but they dint speak much english.
By resorting to english we are actually not utilizing our human resources properly and our efficiency in harnessing man power goes down drastically.

I have, Argument is self defeating because Urdu is not native language for majority, many students struggle to even pass Urdu subject with good marks. Forget science, it will be much difficult to digest accounting in Urdu.
Fine that's your opinion.
Arguing for the sake of arguing is a self defeating art. Enjoy

Oh man . These relatives are always like that . They'll back bite you even if there's nothing to .
Just don't care about them , live yourself .
It doesn't matter if u don't know a specific language .
Your life is yours not theirs live it .
I wish pakistani people could be open minded about other's lifestyles .. but it's not the case with us . They're always judgemental , never care about them , the hell with them .

True the bold part !

i wish pak switches to Urdu trust me it causes so much confusion in our society that we are abandoning our language. People in pak think it cool to speak english and doesn't even suit them with their accent. Urdu is so expressive and would be better for future generation. Try speaking to your elders in english they will be confused and you too will be confused when they speak urdu.
