The problem with Iran's car industry is the lack of proper competition and virtually no real R&D funding! The problem with Iranian car makers today is that they try to match rather than surpass not only current, future tech!

Iran's Khodra's R&D for the Samand rather than going towards actually designing a new car instead went towards finding and buying a decades old unsuccessful European design/company that that never took off
