I don't see how sanctioning some country for invading another can be seen as shooting themselves in the foot.

You want every country in Asia invaded and then say countries on other continents are shooting themselves in the foot for taking punitive measures?

Was the big fuss about Iraq/Afghanistan by some countries just due to unjustified annoyance?

Are countries sanctioning Israel for treating the Palestinians like crap unjustified..and basically shooting themselves in the foot?

They weaponized their banking system and currency against a world power. A monetary system is only valuable as people trust in it and they just lost it. Many of America’s client states aren’t exactly democracies and they are looking for a way out before it’s their turn. The sanctions failed to bring Russia down and instead the European economy is failing as a result, the rest of the world sees this as weakness. When you sanction everyone, you’re the one that becomes sanctioned. Of course you don’t see it when you pretend to be blind.

Why do you think the sanctions are there to bring Russia down? Do you think sanctions on Israel by some countries is somehow supposed to bring it down? Do you think by not selling to Israel those country's GDP's somehow magically went up?

You can still buy some Huawei phone models in the US. The ban mostly has to do with behind the scenes telecommunications hardware.

I don't think Pakistan would be installing telecommunications systems built by India so I'm not sure why you are finding any difficulty understanding the ban.

India and Pakistan is a totally different scenario, we don't accept any Indian technological goods whereas the US market is flooded with Chinese tech and goods. The particular ban was meant to cripple Huawei and ended up crippling Huawei's phone business which had overtaken Apple and Samsung globally.
