What's new

INS Vikramaditya

It's actually 2 destoyers and 4 frigates now.....
One of the destroyer is in anti air role and other is in anti- submarine role......the frigates are for surface protection......
Perhaps, later on P-28a is also to join the CBG of IN. This will surely then become one of the meanest and most sexy CBGs on the planet!! Brahmos, Barak-NG, Mig-29K- drolling!!

.
Dude!! Just get a load of the height of the tower! :woot: Even the goddamn Martians could pick it out with a pair of small Martian binoculars!! This is an anti-ship missile's delight!!
Dont worry it will make sure that its out of enemy missile range and still has its own anti missile defence along with other CBG warships .

Doubt it mate there are subs and corvettes ( for ASW) in CBGs and we can't spare 4 frigates coz we only have 12/13 in service and maybe one more ( shivalik class ) may be added. A good CBG IMO wud have 2 destroyers (1 ASW 1 AAW) 2 frigs(fwd patrol) 1 SSK 1 corvette(ASW) 1 minehunter and 1 support ship!

Ships are always referred to with female pronouns in naval parlance - "she", "her" etc. It's an ancient tradition.
Its not a normal Ship . Remember ACCs are considered as islands . A nuke attack on ACC is considered as attack on country, Any plane flying near a country's ACC should take its permission says ACCs are some thing special . Btw Viraat,Vikrant,Vikramaditya all are male names .

This combined with a Battlegroup consisting of 2 nuclear submarines and we will own the oceans :)

.
Pls check the name. It is Vikarmaditya (male).

Btw Viraat,Vikrant,Vikramaditya all are male names .

The name may be male. But ships are always referred to as "she" and "her", that has been a tradition for a very long time in the english language. The reasons for this predate the origins of the english langauge, and go back to ancient indo-european times:

Why are Boats Called She?

Any ocean going vessel, be it boat or ship or raft has been referred to by the feminine pronoun since prehistory in the english language and its predecessors. Of course, I don't care if you want to call it a "he", I'm just being pedantic.

Ask anybody in the navy how they would address it.

Traditionally ships, even ships named after men such as USS Barry, countries, and oceans have been referred to using the feminine pronouns.

If anyone's interested, 2 great vids on current IN ACC operations (although with INS Vikramditya and IAC1- I'm sure there will be significant differences but still a good starting point to see how professional and expreinced IN are at ACC ops). Shows how far China has to come as they have no experience base to draw from in terms of operating ACCs and no freinds who operate ACCs and are willing to share info, whereas India can pretty much ask anyone she likes (eg IN fighter pilots have trained in US and Russia and have gone on exchanges with French Naval aviators)

Onboard and forks out

Umm...and that makes it male? Anything special has to be male? What exactly are you saying?

(As I said before, I don't really care, I'm just being pedantic in pointing out that ships have historically been referred to with feminine pronouns in the english language.)

India’s Vikramaditya aircraft carrier prepares for sea trials

Sea trials of India’s latest aircraft carrier will start “this summer”, with the work to involve the launch and recovery of fixed-wing aircraft from INS Vikramaditya.Although the Indian navy says it has received all 16 RSK MiG-29K/KUBs – 12 single-seat fighters and four two-seat trainers – from a 2004 order, the trials will be carried out using Russian aircraft flown by Russian pilots.

The aircraft used in the trials are likely to be a purpose-built MiG-29K and a MiG-35D twin-seat demonstrator. An Indian navy team will also be present during the tests.

The Vikramaditya, formerly the Soviet-era carrier Admiral Gorshkov, is located in the Sevmash dockyard in Russia’s northern city of Severodvinsk, where it has undergone major refurbishment to prepare it for the Indian navy. The service says the vessel could be transferred to India by the end of 2012.

No decision has yet been made as to the eventual retirement of India’s only currently operational aircraft carrier, the INS Viraat. The navy operates British Aerospace Sea Harrier FRS51 fighters from the ship, which was originally launched as the UK Royal Navy’s HMS Hermes in 1953. The Viraatunderwent a major refit between August 2008 and November 2009, and the navy had previously said it planned for the carrier to serve until 2020.

India is also developing two domestic aircraft carriers. Although details of these are vague, the first will be equipped with a ski ramp for the launching of aircraft. The second, however, could be equipped with either steam catapults or an electromagnetic aircraft launch system, which could enable the navy to acquire and operate the Northrop Grumman E-2D airborne early warning and control system aircraft.
