Four decades n still counting...
Lol

The Bigger Afraid

2 things.
1. We have fought many wars in past so yes Pakistan is still our potential enemy but we can improve things between us, hopefully.
2. Vikramaditya will be defensive for next 2-3 years but not toothless. It has a very powerful EW system installed already which can literally blind any aircraft coming towards it at the distance of around 400 km(tested many times on Su-33, Mig-29K and IL-38 mpas). Also there will be 5 surface ships(frigates and destroyers with sams) in Its CBG to protect it from incoming missiles and post 2017 add its own Sam system.
Yes Hope is the need for peace.
Anti-submarine defenses are equally concerning. The Indian Navy only has 10 Ka-28s, and only 4 of those are operational. That deficit, plus a Sea King fleet that is small, old, and needs improvements, makes anti-submarine defense a big concern. This area will have to be improved if India intends to field a viable carrier fleet.

@pakeye, IAC 1, IAC 2 is under construction.. this is a stop gap.
The complexity of the project create problems which delayed the timeline of the carrier project. there are many Technical difficulties," the cost of refitting the Russian-built carrier Admiral Gorshkov," and billions in cost overruns have delayed plans for the first of the vessels to enter service, which is now scheduled for 2018.

I don't know from where you got that only 4 Ka-28s are operational.
We have 13 ka-28s(out of them 10 are being upgraded right now.)
33 seakings out of which 22 are for ASW role(17 are upgraded).
and 7 ka-25 for asw role.
So total 42 ASW helis and 27 of them are already upgraded or being upgraded.
PS: though I agree that they are some old now but soon we have a plan to buy 60+ ASW helis in next few years.

Well land of pure army is begging for US left overs in Afghanistan. Leftover $hit that pakistan touches turns gold is it ?

what is the means of Why ? the every story has multiple sides,
in my thinking the Blue water navy is suits to the developed nations they have the money.

Have you read the threads on this subject ?

If not read it, you will get ur answers

talking about $2.3 billion on a decommissioned ship.

Our money, our choice.

Why should it bother anyone ?

and the point is?

Ummmm and the point of this thread is?
The point is he wants to be pointed out that Pakistan does not have a navy worth mentioning.During 1971 war, a mere handful of Indian missile boats crippled their entire naval activity, and rendered the biggest harbour of Pakistan useless.

A Blue water Navy based on a leftover ???

The ship itself was for free, but refurbishing the entire ship and bringing it to up to date standards costs money!

The original contract was awarded for US $ 947 million and now real figure is US $ 2.3 Billion .
