Pakistan is a great country; it must be. Otherwise it won't occupy our national mindspace the way it does. Our media won't go on and on about it for months, the government won't appear so desperate to raise it in every international forum and elicit a few words against it and our own people won't be at each other's throat over the way to look at the country. If there's a growing feeling that Pakistan is dividing India in ways certain but as yet not well-defined — the patriotic Indian versus the unpatriotic Indian is one of the fissures visible — it is not unfounded.

As our testosterone-fuelled television studio superheroes go about distributing certificates of patriotism to fellow Indians, political and social outfits of little consequence threaten our own thinking and creative people, neighbourhood thugs with or without an ideology discover a cause to harass others and the venomous troll army in the social media vents fury at Indians with a different view, Pakistan has reason to feel happy. It could not have divided India the way the local 'patriots' have.

That the Pakistan obsession in India has taken the psychopathic edge needs no overstating.

We have made Pakistan our equal, as great as us. One is still not sure what the television news is trying to achieve by 'exposing' Pakistan before the Indian viewers repeatedly.

Or is there something more, say some ulterior motive?

Ever since Pakistan started dominating the television discourse - that was quite long back - almost everything else has gone off the radar. The farmers, the poor, the tribal population, the jobless and all such groups that used to trouble the conscience of the nation have all but vanished from the media. They break into the news space by accident, through tragedies and great losses. It is as if someone wants to keep the country perennially distracted from them and everything uncomfortable by design.

It is curious indeed that the media, a huge section of it at least, and the government would think so much alike on important issues. The convergence of minds could be purely coincidental, but the combination of both has the potential to create artificial reality for all of us, something akin to a smokescreen where we come to accept the smoke as the reality, not what it conceals. This is what, historians would say, Nazis managed in Germany. The result was disastrous for the country. Terror and Kashmir are indeed important matters for us, but are they that important that we forget whatever else matters to the country and its people?

Our Pakistan obsession has started doing exactly that. When we make that country the single-point agenda of the nation.

I still have high hopes that sane people have not been overshadowed by likes of extremist Hiduvta organizations. I can still expect that peace can prevail in the region and such people give strength to my hopes of peace and better days.

The sword has brought peace to this world more often than the pen.
I am sure peace will prevail and we all can have our daily struggling life back.

You need to act to bring peace and i am happy my nation recently has done its bit towards the peace initiative.
Asymmetric warfare lasts till the opponent runs out of ideas. Raising the stakes just because " we can " is the answer towards lasting peace.

P.S. : I am not your definition of extremist Hiduvta organization product.

U know thats the problem where each side says that "I am right so better put ur house in order". This thing of pointing fingers is taking us nowhere. Again I wud refrain from pointing fingers at anyone but wud try my best as just one individual to play my part in deescalating things rather than being a source of further escalation.

It is a international headache.

I can see why ur red corner is having abundant numbers. And when I see likes of such remarks I am back to zero and wonder if we wud be at peace....ever.

Well i have no issues with the red thingy you mentioned. Thats my love triangle with @Mugwop and @MilSpec .

As for the bigger picture of peace, i am a liberal But honest. The nations are are not at peace because of the ideological differences that even proved wrong at both sides but still clinged on to. since, i am indian i shouldn't say this, but again i am honest. Pakistan has nothing to cling on to except its past. Whenever i have a talk with intellectual of pakistani origin then they show me the past and thats their problem. We Need to look for the future. I appreciate the word that i have been looking all along.

Well thats what I am saying. Why not forget the past and let a new future set in. Honestly speaking I have no issue with common Indian and my heart goes out if something bad happens to common human being in India, the way it hurts when something alike happens in Pakistan. Lets not the few decide our future as we are capable enough to see things through our own eyes and can decide for ourselves whats good and whats bad for us.

Appreciate your point of view , as always i believe that its the fringe elements which bring in unnecessary trouble.
We all have our share of problems and issues to solve but them each one of us needs to take a stand based on our interpretation of events and common sense.

I am sure you have taken a stand in the right direction.

One can always play its own role as individual and convince others to follow the suit. We have much larger problems looming ahead us with Climate Change, Water and food security, Health, Education to name a few. These problems wud engulf us silently if we kept on fighting each other like that. Then there wud be no one in the end left except long silence (GOD FORBID).

For peace to prevail between India and Pakistan. India first has to let go of its delusions of being a regional hegemon. Pakistan wouldn't be taking dictations from Hindu-stanis.

National mindspace?? Really?
It is a international headache. Love it or hate it but you cant get away with it.
The real international and national headache for MODI is the FALSE CLAIM of surgical strikes. It is a farce, a great lie, a hoax, etc....
The biggest blunder

Your nation 'INDIA' recently did nothing but lie to 1.2 billion citizens.

Looking at this.
I guess there is still hope for India.

For any reasonable Indian listening, heed these words. Applies perfectly on the botched Surgical Strikes drama.

Find it strange that Pakistanis are so concerned about religious extremism in India. India is a secular country -- an imperfect one -- the last time I checked. Even if India abandoned secularism and became a Hindu Rashtra tomorrow, how is this a problem for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, whose own ideology is rooted in Islam?

As for extremism, shouldn't Pakistan put its own house in order? The radicalism that has taken its toll? The state that tolerates sectarian groups to operate in the country? If it takes sane people from both sides to make peace, where are the sane people in Pakistan?

First we are not a secular country but we officially are an "Islamic Republic".

Secondly being Islamic Republic doesnt mean that Religious Fanatics are free to do what they want to. Our recent actions against extremism are manifestation of what we really are and what our constitution tells us to do.

Third tell me if any single member out here is supporting any kind of extremism in Pakistan? Show me a single member who has shown a soft corner for any rogue entities present in Pakistan? Tell me if any of us celebrate the loss of innocent lives here? We are taking concrete steps to stem any kind of extremism/radicalism in Pakistan. On the contrary your PM, NSA etc not only openly admit destabilizing Pakistan but on record vow to continue doing so. So tell me who is the extremist here?

Fourth, India by definition is a secular country but current govt has literally made it a "Hindu Rashtra". Not that I have any problem with that but the affects of such entities are spilling over to our side as evident my recent actions/ media hype against Pakistan out there, and yes that is when we become concerned. And regarding the question of sane people, then as U have already decided that U are the most sane while we are totally opposite ones here, so tell me do U see any prospects of peace out there with such thoughts/ideas in mind?
