Indians throwing dead bodies to the Ganges as they are unable to cremate them!

This tradition of throwing dead bodies is there only in UP....it is considered that the dead will attain heaven if their bodies are thrown in ganga..it was widely practised once upon a time in UP but in recent times it has reduced due to strict measures from govt.
UP, Bihar , Bengal , MP, chattisgarh, orissa are a different world from the rest of india.
Its really sad there is a lot of disparity between states that belong to the same country.

Their government really handled this crisis terribly. This covid crisis has really shown the weakness of the government it seems. Moreover, the most surprising thing is that the government seems to be more focus on trying to downplay the crisis and pander to their image than tackling the crisis itself, hoping things will settle down by itself, which seems to show they don't seem to have a clue on what to do or how to handle this. I am surprised that their PM hasn't sacked any of his ministers in charge of this sector and seem to be carrying on as if there is no urgency/worry. In any real democracy this man would have been under immense pressure to resign or take some drastic measures and hold those accountable for neglecting this crisis. This can't just go on like this and end unpunished.
It seems people are left to their own device and they have to struggle themselves for basically everything. No wonder others are now taking advantage by overcharging even for wood/cremation etc. Terrible situation for the poor/those who cant afford much.

really how unhygienic is it to dump dead covid infected bodies into the ganges? The fishes eat it, masquitos/flies spread it. The reason why this is happening is because of the lack of cremation facilities and exorbitant price to cremate the dead. The price of wood has increased tremendously and so have the rate of the Brahmin priests.

In one city in UP, the Brahmin priests who were charging Rs 2200, were now charging in excess of Rs 30,000.

why can't they just bury their dead? Its a lot more respectful to the deceased to send them back into the lap of mother earth instead of just throwing them into the river...I know it is a religious thing in hinduism to cremate and then send the ashes to the ganges, but ultimately the ashes end up in the lap of mother earth anyway...so why not just bury them and let them rest in peace? give your dear deceased ones some dignity by giving them a dignified burial for goodness sakes!
