my kid is a major steam engine fan thanks to Thomas train. Do you have some pics of those?

here is something from my son's collection. he too is a Thomas and friends big fan as in your case. the world's a small place as you know :p:

a small nitbit, WAG 9 is rated at 6000 HP, making it the most powerful freight loco on IR.

Five Diesel Locos stand back to back at Itarsi. All these locos belong to ALCO family and have different powerpacks and represent almost 50 years of ALCO loco variants in India

New age WAP 5 loco zips past a passenger train led by an old WCAM 1 class Dual voltage loco. In an year's time all locos of WCAM 1 will get retired, ending a glorious era of service in Mumbai.

Power of Karnataka Express twin WDM 2 at Itarsi jn. One of the most loved train in India New Delhi Bangaluru Karnataka express is powered by Diesel locos from Itarsi to Bangaluru. It is one of the few trains still to get double locos a fact admired by all rail fans.

..THe locos are good..but the control system, lighting and the driver amenities are pathetic in all.
We should have Air conditioned and ergonomically designed cabins in newer locos.

Same loco can run faster by 30 KM and save 3.5 crore electricity if shaped aerodynamically said IIT Bombay.

..yes..there are many small small things which can make things better for IR and India in general.
..I remember the 3 phase being procured from Europe ( it was ABB's ???) were asked to 'blunt' the locos to make it look more "Indian'..
The manufacturer were shocked to hear this request from IR/RDSO

The story behind the pic is that I was not interested in traveling by ATR flight (its so damn scary in that small flight) so I begged to book my tickets for train.
I was very impressed by the service provided by Radhani guys and they do have a good reputation.
I have travelled a lot in train when I was in college,it used to be mostly in mangla and jhelum express. I have lots of good memories associated with those trips and trains. :-)

Rajdhani is easily the best train in the IR network.
