Indian CBG to have 7 Escorts

7 means -is it comprises -------one destroyer,2frigates ,2 submarines, one mine sweeper, one corvette??

Two CBGs in Indian Ocean , one CBG in Arabian sea should be ideal ... as far as Bay of bengal is concerned , Andaman and nicobar Islands act as a natural CBG stretching upto thousands of Kms offering us safety and protection :yahoo:

Wow gr8 news :)

We should add amphibious assault ships to at least one CBG too.

An Indian CBG will depend on the task and threat perception in the theater of ops. Battle Groups are formed and disestablished on an as needed basis, and one may be different from another. However, they all are comprised of similar types of ships. A CBG typically includes:

An Aircraft Carrier, which is the centerpiece of the Battle group and also serves as the flagship.

A carrier air wing.

One to two guided missile cruisers having missiles for long-range strike capability.

A destroyer squadron with two to three guided missile destroyers for anti-aircraft (AAW) and anti-submarine (ASW) warfare, but which also carries missiles for long-range strike capability.

Up to two attack submarines, to screen the battle group against hostile surface ships and submarines, but which also carry missiles for long-range strike capability.

A logistic support ship.

Cheers!

Is this not a serious drain of resources of IN, IN already have shortage of warships, now with 3 AC's by the end of decade, 21 warships will be needed for it's escort, that means we will have 21+3 = 24 ships present at only 3 places of the ocean at a time, how we will cover entire Indian Ocean???

1 Shivalik, 1 P17A, 1 Talwar, 1 Kolkata, 1 Chakra(For Blue Water Operations) or Scorpene(For IOR), 1 Kamorta, 1 Deepak Class Tanker.

What is your composition for A Peace Time CBG visiting Vietnam or say Europe?

INS Viraat CBG
2 Destroyers{Kolkata class +Delhi Class}
2 Frigates {Shivalik +Talwar Class or P17A}
1 Convertee
1 SSBN
1 scorpene submarine
1 Mine sweeper
1 Tanker

For me that will be the ideal CBG for India in Indian ocean....

You seem to think too negatively .... In another decade when all the 3 CBGs will be operational , India can surely afford to maintain them .... Indian sovereignty and security is of utmost importance !

no mate, i am always for 3+ AC's in IN until i came to this thread, the important thing is that we want to patrol entire IO & if possible send our ships elsewhere, in that respect my concerns are legitimate.

No,

Its more likely to be 2 Frigates , 2 Destroyers , 1 Corvette , 1 Tanker , 1 SSN

Indian Navy will become a very powerful one by the end of this decade.

I think it will be fourth after 1.US, 2.China, 3.Russia.

Nah , I still rate Japanese Navy to be better than India , even in 2022

Coz Japan currently have 39 Frigates and Destroyers and 8 Large Corvettes ,Which are Principal Fighting fleet of any navy
Even after 10 Yrs , With Japan Retiring more ships than Inducting due to slowdown
It will still have 35-36 Frigates and Destroyers and 8-9 Large Corvettes

While , in case of Indian Navy , even if every thing goes as per plan
We will still have only 32 Frigates and Destroyers and 8 Large corvettes in 2022 , which would be both numerically and Technologically inferior to Japanese Navy

Japan would not have 3 aircraft carriers that would carry over 100 combat aircraft.

These aircraft would be very difficult for the Japanese to handle.

The technological gap would be there but not significant.

Anyway nice to see an Indian who is prepared to be objective for once.:)
