The video, which shows the mobile phones of around 50 recruits being smashed with rocks and stones in front of them at the Mahar Regimental Centre at Saugor, MP. A few Army regimental centres have taken to publicly destroying mobile phones of recruits if they are caught using them in violation of rules to send a stern message down the ranks that indiscipline will not be tolerated during training programmes. As a general rule, the Army does not allow “smartphones with cameras” in many of its establishments and units around the country. The armed forces also regularly issue instructions to ensure all personnel maintain cyber security in light of mounting espionage attempts through malicious software to steal data from smartphones as well as computers.

Why smash the phones when you can just jam the signals but that's asking too much when Indian army can't even supply a hammer to smash the phones

HAHAHA! Yes, destroy the personal property of your new recruits! That is the way to treat them. Will definitely boost morale.

No wonder the Indian army has such a high rate of suicide.

Rules means Rules. So phones break the morale of army ?

To protect vital security installation. Smart phones indeed have many drawbacks. They should allow them old phones for only communication purpose after all facebook is not the world all about

There are many ways to enforce rules without antagonizing the person. Damaging or destroying one's property is an affront to a person no matter what situation it is.
