India needs to ally with US to counter China: Fareed Zakaria to India Today at Davos

His proposition is already is in works for a decade , on topic this guy is liar and scum.

Vietnam is now growing strongly and has good relations with all powerful countries apart from China.
With a population of nearly 100 million, large land mass and rich natural resources it is well placed to become an Asian power in it's own right over the next 20-30 years.

China is not that powerful as it does not have a single rich ally at all.

USA, Japan, Korea and Vietnam are enough to balance out a developed China in E Asia. Let us not also talk about countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and BD who are not anti-China per se but would always prefer the anti-Chinese alliance over China.

China's problem is that no-one pretty much likes it for various reasons. USA beat Soviet Union in cold war as it had rich and powerful allies and the Soviets did not.

Nosense.

China enjoys good relations with most of the world and is the largest trading partner of most countries. Only in the western media is it portrayed that China is alone.

China is in another league when compared to all neighbouring countries and the disparity in power will only grow in the comming 2 decades.

With Vietnam, even with shirty government to government relations trade still flows. Chinese tourists travel in droves to Vietnam and people to people exchanges are 99.9 percent positive.

Saying "China wants stability and peace" is not enough. Under what conditions and terms does China want that? Is it really just for making money and for the economy? No, as we have seen, "China wants peace and stability" on the condition of maintaining the 9 dash line, claiming Taiwan as part of it, and the Senkaku islands. Those terms create the conditions of bad tensions and a difficult peace because those terms are demands to great and unfair towards the surrounding countries. Thus China can claim that it wants peace and stability, but by saying that, it is failing to recognize that its terms are beyond acceptable.

Japan needs to double military spendings. To at least 2 or better 3 percent of GDP. About the level of NATO. More Japan aircraft carriers visit to the SC sea. By the way there is a rumour in Vietnam. Not sure if true. Xi’s spouse Peng Luyuang wants to file divorce because he refuses to help in the household. A desperate man with nuclear weapon with unchecked power is dangerous. Vietnam military is on alert.

Yes, Japan's defense budget needs to raise, and it is raising. Something that needs to be careful about saying 2% is that more important than just simply reaching 2% is to be using the funding efficiently or on meaningful things. Even though Japan's defense budget right now as still at about 1% of GDP, it is very tight and efficiently utilized. Some NATO countries even if close to or at 2% are not very efficient about the use of those funds.

As for capabilities, Japan just adopted a new long term outline plan for force arrangement. In accordance to it, the number of naval warfare ships is to increase, the total number of tactical aircraft in both the JMSDF and the JASDF will also increase in accordance to the new outline plan. Soryu submarines will continue to improve, with the first in the world LiB-only submarine having been launched last year in October. Not long ago, plans for another 105 F-35s were announced, which goes on top of the current plan of 42, thus making 147 F-35s, and among them are 42 F-35Bs. Japan is also to acquire long range stand off weapons such JSM. Japan also has plans to acquire more aerial tankers which will extend the range of the JASDF. The JGSDF is becoming much more mobile in design now too. A big part of JGSDF mobility is the introduction of the new C-2 aircraft which has about twice the lift of the C-130 enabling it to air transport the Type 16 MCV, of which Japan is making many of these. Japan will ultimately get about 30-40 C-2s. Japan is also developing cyber and space dedicated units.

Trade relations mean nothing.
Even at the height of the cold war Soviets traded with Western Europe.

Vast bulk of rest of world would either be neutral or side with the anti-Chinese alliance as China has no appeal to the rest of the world.

China's rise has actually forced Japan to build aircraft carriers again - the current plan is two 27,000 tonne carriers and we know for sure that the next ones will be much larger.
Japanese Navy is an absolute monster even with defence spending at 1% of GDP. As China gets more powerful this will rise and most of it will be spent on the JN.

No way China will be wield much influence beyond 1 or 2 poor and backward countries like Myanmar in it's own backyard.

Trade and people to people exchanges are activities that have limited impact on geo-political activities of the governments of different countries throughout the region. It is all but too clear that even though such trade and tourism takes place, that the kind of diplomacy and defense policies carried out have not been subjected to it.

Despite tensions Chinese tourists storm Japan in record numbers, buying cheap cosmetics. Ha ha. Japan should rise again to a military power. It will help by easing military pressure on the northern flank. Unlike Japan that has a vast ocean, with hungry sharks, Vietnam has no natural barrier against Chinese invasions. We are extremely vulnerable to their attacks.

Chinese peaceful rise is nothing more than cheap propaganda bullshit. Chinese sometimes behave like IS terrorists. You should look at the images of Vietnam when the PLA burnt everything to the ground.

They threatened Vietnam with war last year because we drilled in Eez but violated their greedy 9 dash fxxcking lines.

You also threaten China sometimes, it's just a political gesture to make your point, nothing more. China's focus is on the economy cause we know once you become an economic super power, everything else will natural come with it.

I want to know if India is counting the cow's stool into GDP. Is it true? Even if you live in your own house, you will calculate the rent, In order to expand GDP %? If these are true, Is it important to not complete the expected goals?

Still geography has been somewhat kind to Vietnam as the country is long north to south and short east to west.
The border between Vietnam and China is 1280Km long and it is at an altitude of 500m to 2000m. This will mean that China cannot really attack with mass armoured columns all along the border.

What threatening China?
Considering the imbalance of power we are not too mad.
Actually we are too soft toward China. Probably because of close cultural tie.

Usually we have little mercy toward our enemies. The Mongols, the Manchu. After the battles our streets, our rivers were littered by their dead bodies. Nobody could escaped.
After annihilation of Champa army in 15 century, all remaining 40,000 soldiers were executed. Their heads were chopped off.

Most part of Vietnamese trade is doing with China, and China has a lot of assets in Vietnam, milions of Chinese tourists spend billions in Vietnam, why we should attack the country? What a joke.

In the meantime, Vietnam's economy needs to develop. In time, nominal gdp should surpass 1 trillion USD and continue marching towards 1.5 trillion. In the longer term, 3 trillion may be realistic, but lets just get to 1 trillion first. By that time, Vietnam's defenses will be able to afford some real good stuff. That'll make for two strong asian allies.

There are some things that Vietnam can do in order to deepen defense relations with Japan. One would be more cooperation with the Philippines and working out agreement regarding the Spratly islands with them. Of course this same message can be sent to the Philippines. The two playing sports on the islands were good signs.

The second thing would be to reduce dependency on Russia since Russia is often aligned with China. It may be tough and may take time since Russia makes good military equipment at affordable costs. Maybe when Vietnam's economy is stronger, they can transition away from Russian equipment procurement to Japanese equipment procurement.

The third might be difficult but a consideration for some degree of democracy. Japan of course seems to respect Vietnam's current form of government so it doesn't seem to be an issue. But maybe later down the road, democracy can be considered. If not, probably not a big problem. Just some thoughts.

India needs to ally with US to counter China: Fareed Zakaria to India Today at Davos
January 26, 2019
India’s economic growth has not lived up to the mark in terms of sustained economic grow foreign affairs analyst Fareed Zakaria told India Today TV at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

When asked about India’s global image as an emerging economy, Zakaria said, "The world, think, has viewed India for the last few years as a disappointment."

Japan's economy is shrinking, people are dying of old age, foreign powers control your foreign policy... you have so many urgent problem to deal with at hands, 20 years ago you may have some strength, but now, your future is becoming more bleak by the day.

There's been a lot of delusion going on in this thread about "balancing" China, and especially foolish posts stating that China couldn't attract allies. Let me administer a dose of reality: allies are gotten by strength. Small and weak countries ally with those that can protect them and they have zero sense of loyalty, only a strong instinct for self-preservation and a very short memory. Today, that protector is the United States; tomorrow, it won't be. As China's power grows, all of America's allies (yes, even Japan) will jump ship and defect to China. They have to, because the first ones that do will obtain an enormous advantage over their regional rivals.

A certain weeb who shall go unnamed fantasized about Vietnam reaching a trillion dollar GDP. Well, he'll have to wait a quarter of a century for that to happen. I hope he's patient. Meanwhile, China's GDP will by then be at least 35 trillion USD (nominal, likely 50+ trillion by PPP).
