China follows collective leadership, one can have many titles but power is being check by the standing commitee, no one has too much power and power transfer has been very smooth for decades, you really don't know much about the Chinese governance.

During the sino soviet split the choice was to support China or the soviet Union. One foolish little banana country which I will not name chose the Soviets. They have suffered poor relations ever since and even had to fight a devasting war in their norther border.

With a population of nearly 100 million, large land mass and rich natural resources it is well placed to become an Asian power in it's own right over the next 20-30 years.

China is not that powerful as it does not have a single rich ally at all.

USA, Japan, Korea and Vietnam are enough to balance out a developed China in E Asia. Let us not also talk about countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and BD who are not anti-China per se but would always prefer the anti-Chinese alliance over China.

China's problem is that no-one pretty much likes it for various reasons. USA beat Soviet Union in cold war as it had rich and powerful allies and the Soviets did not.

We are seeing the re-emergence of the Japanese Navy before our very eyes.

Already Japan has announced that the two 27,000 tonne Izumo class will be converted to full aircraft carriers able to hold at least a squadron of F-35Bs each. This is just the start and we will see Japanese fighters in the future flying off much larger carriers in the future.

Not only will US carriers assist Vietnam, but also Japanese ones if China thinks it can bully Vietnam.
