It's been "artificially delayed" for decades, and now they want reform to happen this year?

Tell me why would any P5 member want to dilute their own veto power? Seriously?

The aspirants want 5 members to be added (G4 + 1), and several of the prospective members have zero chance.

China will veto Japan, Russia won't accept Germany/Japan who are strong American allies. Not to mention both China and Russia have active territorial disputes with Japan, and Japan just sanctioned Russia over Crimea as well.

We aren't going to have a UNSC reform for every single member, it will be one big reform to expand the council.

Which means it has zero chance to pass, since if any P5 member has a problem with one country, the entire resolution will not pass. And that is clearly the case here.

That's why it has been delayed so long, because it has no chance of going anywhere.

Even if you kick out Japan and Germany from the G4, the P5 will find other reasons. There is no reason for the P5 to dilute their own veto power.

Realistically it's a slim chance given India has territorial disputes with both China and Pakistan.. If not there would'nt be any other arguments against it

It's not that simple in global power politics, If thats the case then both Japan and Germany would have been included much before.. Size of the economy does not matter, Thats a different case.. US is simply looking for massive markets, to Sell some of thier tech and India is a prime market for them, The Likes of China does not go shopping for US tech in nuclear or otherwise.. So their alternate is India.. And to counter balance China's growing influence but that will never be at the cost of the advantage they have in the UNSC..

Like is said India is nothing for them compared to Britain and France and you forget these are veto wielding members, Numbers doesnt really require, One vote then thats it.. And as i mentioned in my first post India also have unresolved territorial disputes with one UNSC member and a with another influential member of the UN community in Pakistan.. Neither the US, Britain or France would want another muddle to deal within the UNSC, They are already having thier hands tied with Russia

They have to dilute, because international pressure on P5 is tremendous.

But I dont think there is any chance of India, and it definitely be Germany, most suited for western diplomacy.

So the coming in of the new members will definitely mean going out of some old ones, I don't think US , Russia and China will give up their seats, so you have to talk to UK and France about it.
