India aborts a human Moon mission

In January 2009, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) indicated that it could undertake a human Moon mission by 2020.

That is some super boasting.

Please read this article, according to the ISRO and the IAF, the first round of the selection process for choosing potential astronauts for India's first human spaceflight will take place in 2020.

And of course, finishing the selection process, and actually training them to an acceptable level will take several years more. So 2025 at the earliest.

IAF to select crew for India's 1st manned mission to space - Economic Times

Director General of Army Medical Corps ( AMC) Lieutenant General H L Kakria while replying to a query on participation of defence forces in country's first space mission said IAF is setting up facilities for the first round of selection process which will begin by 2020.

"IAF has entered into an MoU with the ISRO for long term space research. ISRO has supplied it with lot of equipments and the provisional time for first selection is 2020 and the original thing is likely to take place much later," Kakria told reporters here.

So India will have its first human spaceflight in 2025+, yet they will already have put astronauts on the moon by 2020.

Super boasting, that defies basic principles of reality.

So, did we compare ourselves to China on space program. Look some of your cheerleaders tried to prove China has left Russia far behind in space race.:rofl:

Who is talking about comparing to China?

You do know that 2020 is BEFORE 2025, right? How can ISRO conduct a manned moon mission, five years before ISRO's first human spaceflight?

.
lol..only one country achieved manned moon mission..so,according to you,all the other nationals should wake up from delusion.. :cheesy:

on topic..age of manned moon mission is over(until colonization of moon) as it is far more costly, dangerous and its better to send a rover than a human as probe can perform its job much much longer than a man.no need to send a man in moon right now.Chandrayan-2 is on right track and via it,india'll send an orbiter,a rover and a russian lander.the rover will analyse and will send data about samples from there.

haters gonna hate and trollers gonna troll.but Chandrayan-2 will rock the world just like Chandrayan-1.

I must have missed it but what is Chandrayan-1 and what did it do?

. . .
Out of curiosity, did India found water on the moon, or the US? Seems like there're some controversies for this, anyone know the details?

It was first Moon orbiter of India which carried our own and NASA equipment which found water on Moon. It was supposed to work for 2 years but contact was lost after 8 months but it did manage to complete 95% of tasks intended. Because of ISRO's limited budget, it developed cost-effective program which was appreciated by other space agencies.

It was a major stepping stone for ISRO. It also embarked the joint projects between ISRO and NASA which is the major reason ISRO is now targeting to do most of the projects in cooperation with other space agencies like that of US and Russia. It is cost efficient, gives better result and easy to complete the project in shorter time.

This has also resulted in change in priorities hence this decision. ISRO has always been an organization which worked more for projects that are important and crucial for country's development rather than scoring points.

People who are bringing in China are forgetting that China wasn't allowed by US to join ISS so they are developing there own. There manned mission and current space missions are impressive along with the quality of their satellites.

They also want to be self-reliant so they are developing their own GPS like system. They are developing their manned mission so that they don't have to be dependent on nations like Russia which US has to.

They are also ahead of India in Rockets that are currently used. There economy allows them to take these projects which is a good approach to get best of the good times.

We can't quantify who many years are they ahead reason being these space capabilities can accelerate or decelerate non-linearly. So Chinese members should also keep this fact. You are catching up with US and Russia at good pace, so can India with you. Few years can change the entire landscape.

Its better we talk about technologies, the current and future obstacles ISRO may face.

Cheers

well, we still have option of sending astronauts in earth's orbit, thanks to ISRO OV

It was joint collaboration.....part of the mission.....One cannot deny that it is ChnadraYaan 1, who made it happen.....

The Unfortunate Contrast

When India plans and invest in projects like Manned Space program, Manned Moon or Unmanned Mars mission, people bring in 450 million poor and starving people living $1.25 dollar a day but if the same time India aborts one project as cooperation with other countries can certainly deliver fast and better results, they start jumping on India's ineptness and forget that the money saved will be invested in same poor people living in Sub-Saharan poverty.

When India buys ACC for $ 2 billion then everyone start laughing but when we delay it for our sailors safety they do the same. If we have accepted the ACC in current form and sailors died due to Asbestos, you all will say India don't care about its armed forces and will bring Mig-21 Flying Coffins. People say so much about our own ACC being built getting delayed where as countries like China which has better ship building industry hasn't built one.

List of such kinds of contrast is too long.....

From where I see, most of the people on this forum just waits for failing of India and start bashing it where as Failed State designation of Pakistan is banned topic. We accept it is your forum and you decide the rule and we are the guest but at the same time being host also brings some responsibility too.

the reason is trolls just troll

and another reason is some of these trolls have experienced 'burns' of 19th April and 19th September

2020 was a very aggressive timeline.

I think it would be atleast 2025 that an Indian can put a person in space.

Only then, can India partner up with Russia to sent astronauts to the Moon.

That alone will be another 15-20 years away.

It won't be until 2040 that India can realistically land a man on the moon.

As for USA, they are planning to construct a Lunar Base by the mid-2030's and a Manned Mission to Mars by 2040.

So when India lands a man on the moon, they can stay at the US Lunar Base :D

.
^ When India plans to complete the project by 2020, it will get it done by 2025. I think after being almost 6 years on this forum you know this. :D

Indian on moon, I will say make it 2030.

See one thing you are actually missing is now India is cooperating with US and Russia. NASA is the key factor here. We didn't have that type of knowledge and tech. which we could have get from NASA back in our early years but Chandarayaan -1 has opened a new frontier. You can expect US chipping in for joint Lunar Mission and joint Moon base especially when NASA's budget is being reduced and India has delivered cost-effective space programs.

Currently US is dependent on Russia for sending astronauts on ISS. If Indian capabilities increases, they will happily switchover to India by 2025.

When technology transfer happen or even collaboration comes into picture the expected time period can reduce significantly.

R&D, highly advanced technological projects in collaboration is something that people underestimate.

When India plans for 2020 manned space mission, it will in parallel run Mars mission along with our own regional navigation system. Try to look through organizational structure and parallel approach.

Look at China in 1990 and 2010. Their economy turned the entire space scenario.

The leap-frog effect should always be considered. Priorities also changes with time.

This is true, but I also have faith in the ISRO, at least they are not like other agencies which just do big talks.
