How should PN counter the IN Carrier Battle Group

. .
.
The reason I posted the above introduction, is that I would like to invite a a productive discussion specifically to operate & counter the IN CBG keeping in view the existing capabilities of both adversaries.

8 subs from china, Agosta90b.

Cheapest option would be to invest in long range, smart anti-ship ballistic / cruise missiles and have dedicated Satellite tracking, targeting and guidance resource available. I think Chinese and now Iranians are also working on these lines for US carrier groups.

This could be used to target all IN surface fleet.

A dedicated unit of Naval Air based on JF-17 armed with load of AKG-400 etc would be needed but I must say we must acquire dual engine long range fighters for Naval defense.

We have a sub or two (not sure) in turkey for up-gradation. I am not sure.

Let us be conservative and assume we have availability of 2X subs for this op.

A few P-3Cs/UAVs for recon.

Need to know existing coverage of our SOSUS if any. @Rashid Mahmood

I don't think the A/C will come within 400 KM of our shore considering C-602s and other cruise missiles.

I don't think we could lay mines due to heavy civil traffic.

A strike if any will have to be done by using the subs to channel their fleet to a path where PN/PAF can strike the fleet with JF-17s/Mirages backed by FACs. Use of ZDK would be required for coordination and early detection.

The other option is to use refuelers to strike the fleet while it is traveling to its duty station. That would be one way mission.

Another option could be to use a nuke or two.

Sinking a carrier is very hard. Disabling its runway and its ability generate sorties should be the primary mission.

Its a sitting duck. First thing to go down when war breaks out. Just overwhelm the CIWS with a barrage of standoff missiles from different angles.
Not possible ... There is Barak 8 onboard plus it will have CIWS and anti air power of whole fleet that includes 3 friegates ... You need alot of fire power ... missile carrying capacity o fthunder is very limited ...

We need to invest in our Air power

In ww2 when Carriers were last sunk Air power was KEY

We need do build up our naval air power not saying we need our own carrier but a few squadrons of fighter bombers dedicated to protecting our coast is gonna be necessary Jf17 or J10 c armed with anti ship missiles and a few tankers for refueling

To take out a CBG, you have to ask two questions, (1) What is the primary offensive weapon of a CBG? and (2) What is the foremost thing that the commander of a CBG is afraid of?

First one is easy, it is the MIG-29. If you have better fighter jets than MIG-29, half of your worry is gone. As for the second question, I would guess submarine attack worries the CBG commander most.

It happened during Falkland War where British had to move HMS Hermes and HMS Invincible further out away from South American mainland after receiving reports of Argentine SSK activities in the area.

Sinking an aircraft carrier is not easy, especially if it has powerful escorts. However, a mission kill would cause the CBG to retreat, thus eliminate the threat from the ocean side.

A mission kill is achieved when (1) the CBG lose its effective air power (ex. losing 75% to 100% of its fighter jets) and (2) the aircraft carrier is not able to launch and recover its airpower due to damages sustained to its runway, rudder, air-control sensors or the ship is listing due to underwater damage etc.

I think with nuclear submarines India has addressed the threat of submarine attack ... The real threat to CBG is a missile that can outpace or outmaneuver Barak 8 ... I think CM300 AKG can do the job but we have not yet purchased and I dont understand why ...

Bribe Indian navy to sink / crash it.
Lolz ,,, that was hilarious ...

Sir you are active after a long gap , where have you been ... No comments on current military clash between india and pak ...

In current weapons your best shot is 4 JF-17 each loaded with two CM-400 getting as close to Carrier as they can and firing them. Even if one hits on right spot if not sink it would put he AC out of action for a year at least
