I was deeply moved by your decent and very logical post.

The rot did start during the Zia era, but for an entirely different reason. In fact JI founder Maulana Maudodi was labeled as a Kafir by the Deobandi School beginning with Maulana Hussein Ahmad Medani (JUH).

The real cause was the infamous Iran-Iraq war, rapacious bloodshed of 1.5 m Muslims. Both Iran and Iraq were investing in proxies; with Iraq aided by Saudi money. Massive pumping of money and arms by both sides fueled the Shia-Sunni feuds in a big way; our society was split. An estimated 15,000 Pakistani lives have been lost so far.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with the Wahabi school of thought, and so with other honorable schools of thought. But the divisive and aggressive manner in which minor differences were exploited by both, the venom sprouted organizations like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Jhang and Thokar Niaz Baig emerged as the nodes of a perpetuating disaster.

Khalid Bin Waleed too was an enemy of Islam at a certain point in time. Hazrat Abu Sufyan and Amir Muawiyah were Suhabah, great companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH); but they were humans and made some horrible mistakes. The seeds of the of the great tragedy of Karbala were sown at that tumultuous time; we are still paying the price in one form or another.

Just like you I also do not subscribe to a particular school of thought. I am branded as a “Terrorist sympathizer” by certain friends at this forum, so by default a Wahab Takfiri Hezb ul Tahrir. In fact I admire all those who stare straight into the eyes of tyranny from any school of thought, be it Salafis, Shias or Naqashbandis.

Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif are not Mullahs, Qazi’s credentials as a Mullah too are highly questionable.

They are leaders who are not supporting US sponsored operations by Pakistani Army, and want to maintain a semblance off national dignity. On other hand we are Colonial subjects of the US, and sincerely want to rid ourselves of any semblance of dignity.

I concur and take no pride in our hysteria-driven ignorance of jurisprudence and due process. I'd much prefer to have placed these men before military tribunal or civilian court at the soonest and let the world know their crimes and see the evidence.

As to "masters", sir, you confuse me-one minute you supplicate as a groveling whore and the next you order new choppers from Russia through our meager resources. Please make up your mind.

One of the problems is that most people don't understand the differences in titles being used and lump any person with beard with ignorant "mullahs". Even though technically speaking they might not even be a mullah.

Hafiz - A person who has memorized the quran. This does not mean that he understands it. He has no right to make pronouncements as there is no guarantee that he understands it

Mullah, Maulana, Maulavi, Alim - Are different variations and refers to a person who has studied a little bit of Islamic law. Although he may not be an expert. Unfortunately, even people who have not studied properly claim to be mullahs or are lumped under mullah brand.

Ofcourse there are also some intolerant mullahs who are definitely part of the problem. Some of these are also actively involved in making money and enhancing their fame and power by attacking other schools of thoughts and perverting Islamic rulings for their own benefit. This can be compared to something like the Bachelors degree in a modern university.

Also the place where a person graduates from depends a lot on the graduates outlook. For example, the deoband university in India has never declared that Barelvis are Kafir or they they have differences of opinion with them unlike in the secretarian situation in Pakistan.

Mufti - A person well versed in Islamic law. This is PhD equivalent

Mufassir- A person well versed in understanding of Quran a PhD equivalent for Quranic study.

Muhaddith - A person well versed in Hadith (Sayings of the prophet ) a PhD equivalent of Hadith study

If you know any details about the secretarian / militant movements and AQ type groups. None of them are graduates in the field or from any well known university of Islamic learning. On the other hand they have all been denounced by all these important schools.

Unfortunately the western media and even our own media in the east does not highlight the people who are well versed experts in Islam and gives more airtime to these ignorant "mullahs" . The other problems is complacency shown to secretarian and militant groups shown in Pakistan. These were used for political purposes. If you look at the AQ personalities, OBL is a businessman, Zawahiri a medical doctor. In Pakistan Qazi Hussain has an MSc in Geography, TTP heads Baitullah and Hakimullah do not even have any education in Islamic law. Not much is known except that they spent a few years in regular schools and a few years in a madrassa(which was more a training camp than a school of Islamic learning). Hafiz Saeed again has no expertise in Islamic law and has no right to go around brandishing false reasons for Jihad. "Mullah" Omar again there is no definite information from which school he graduated. Why should their explanation of Islam be given importance over people who have spent much more time studying and doing research on the same?

Lets not fall for the same mistake some people fall for for example lumping all muslims as terrorists. Because we are doing the same thing. It might be easy to blame one group but ease is not the way out. Understanding that all religious scholars are not monolith is important and it is their co-operation with the tolerant and well versed among them who have no connection to politics and power seeking that can be used to defeat extremist ideology.

I don't know about India ( must be same as Pakistan) but where ever I go( I have a beard) people call me maulvi, mullah, etc. And the second thing they do is that they'll seek opportunity to disgrace you by saying that "see you are a mullah and you are doing this"

The general public is not being exploited by the Mullah, but by its own ignorance and the habit of leaving religious matters solely on the description and disposal of a Mullah rather than finding out through reading by the public themselves.

There should be a total ban on any person using religion for political purposes. If a mulla wants to fight elections it should be on a developmental platform, not something like "give me vote if you are muslim". These people who use Islam for political purposes and fire up sectarianism should be imprisoned and/or fined. And also even in mosques, there should be strict monitoring of any support to political party support or vote canvassing e.t.c. These are not their jobs and they should focus on improving morality and spirituality of people.

Absolutely, I have always said that there should be a total ban on those who want votes in the name of the religion. All the so-called religious parties must be dissolved and a constitutional amendment be made that prohibits the creation of such parties. The so called religious parties (which in practice are not religious at all) such as JI, JUI have caused more damage to Pakistan than the rest of the political parties combined. These so-called religious parties have always paved the way for the military intervention and later supported the unconstitutional acts of the dictators. Generally 60-70% of Muslims in Pakistan use to offer Jumma and Eid prayer in Mosque.
This is the biggest opportunity for mullah to exploit them at mimber with US involvement,kerry lugar bill,Indian un-circumscribed involved persons...etc. Mullah has lot of stuffs to oppose the operation against terrorist.
In recent jamat-islami( defame Islami) conducting referendum against US involvement in Pakistan.They don't spare a single word against terrorist who are even killing our Students in universities.
Last night Qazi sb is telling at Express channel that all this terrorism is conducted by US in Pakistan

Majority of people don't aware about reality.Unfortunately they have to face this freaking mullahs in mosque and have to get this disinformation.Certainly these propaganda machines working for last many years to destabilize and scattered the nation and country.
But now their activities are full swings.

We have only choice to stop this mullah to do this propaganda. And this job would must be done everyone where he find such blacksheep in Jumma prayers.
