In India a fair looking boy generally doesn't prefer marrying a dusky girl..the other way round is also true but parents of the girl (or girl herself) compromise and marry off the girl to a dark boy if he is in a good position...intercaste marriages have become normal in cities...my question is since Punjabi's are darker than pashtuns and balochs, what happens if they ask their girl or boy in marriage?will they be willing to have ties with them ?I want to hear from people who came across such experiences..I know generally every ethnic group marries from the same group but there might have been some incidents where inter ethnic marriages might have been proposed.

Don't tell me we don't have such problems ,we live in a utopia etc kind of BS.It has always been the case across the world for fairer looking persons to look down upon less fair complexioned people and I know Pakistan would be no different (reading comments on PDF I could judge that).

colour is not issue but region....
like pathan living in lahore merely do inter merry.... specific to ur question... boys prefer lighter skin tone and girls; side prefer as always, stable person....

how is this in any way related to defense or military ? you should probably join some sociology or cultural forum xD
it is posted under social thread...

Have more than hundred cousins (extended family) married to Punjabis / Balochs...... it's a no brainer, they are our OWN people.............. as long as the boy/girl fulfills the basic requirements (same for all), I would be happy to wed my son / daughter to any of them!

Punjabi and Pathan inter marriages are very common specially in the border region...but more specially with Hindko speakers.

Likely more common in cities, doesn't matter which ethnic group. Not so much in rural areas IMO. People generarly don't even marry other tribes so different ethnic group is last in someone mind.

We only look down on indians, going by pdf comments that is the conclusion you should have reached. Inter ethnic marriages happen all the time in Pakistan.

I don't know about Baloch, but most Pashtuns don't wed their women to proper central Punjabis. But it's got nothing to do with skin colour, as most of us Pakistanis are not as insecure about colour. The opposite is also true. An average Pashtun man with even a dark and ugly daughter wouldn't marry her to a fair skinned Punjabi(yes they exist, particularly the Chinioti Khatris). The reverse is also true. Chinioti Khatris only marry other khatris. Most people stick with their own kind, except for the urban upper middle class.

With that said, the more religious minded people tend to be less nationalistic and do intermarry. Intermarriages are also common in multi-ethnic cities like Islamabad and Karachi.

A simple google search would have answered your question. There is so much on this subject on the net.

Don't trust everything you read on the internet. There's a lot of 16 year olds with an internet connection and a keyboard out there.

But this is not a scientific subject to be analysed. This is a social norm, and can be directly observed. In India too people are slowly opening to inter-caste marriages. In Pakistan, because of feudalism and lot of other issues, marriages between Punjabis and Pusthuns are even rarer and if a marriage happens, then both families and bride & groom have to pay a heavy price.

Come on kid, one of my uncle is married in Pastun family we haven't paid any price, also Inter marriage is common in educated peoples from both sides because most of times Pastun women are not able to speak any other language then Pashtu and if a Punjabi wishes to marry a Girl from NWFP heartland then first he will have to learn Pashtu.
