How difficult would it be for China to invade Taiwan?

You have to deploy the mines first. Taiwan strait isn't mined since it is a major shipping route and China won't announce the attack first. The declaration of war is meaningless since China doesn't recognize Taiwan as an independent country. For China, it is just a resumption of an old civil war.

High IQ move would be regonizing Taiwans indepence and get over with it and move to other things. Problem solved.

China is out to destroy Taiwan and it's population? I guess we have dropped whole liberation facade.

Personally I don't understand whole Taiwan issue... is China really threatened by Island with 20 million on it? I'd make a common sense thing and regonize their independence and get over it and then continue as usual.
Even with liberation facade, there is no contradiction. If you want to learn PLA tactics, you can learn something about the battle of Tianjin, a city close to Beijing, and the siege of Changchun, a city in the northeast. The latter caused 50-100 thousands of civilian death, largely due to starvation. The former left no formal assessment on civilian casualty but my friends in Tianjin told me there were plenty since PLA used a very effective tactics to take out strongholds hidden in civilian buildings. They blew a big hole at the back of the building, which is unfortunately often where civilians hid themselves.

For PLA, the top priority is always to achieve the tactical/strategic goals. Everything else is secondary, including its own casualty.

Then US can install ballistic and anti-ballistic missiles and in Taiwan since it is an independent country. More problems come.

Those heavy SAM coverage would be taken out first, if not by cruise/ballistic missiles, then by stealth drones. Stealth fighters would try to take out Taiwan fighters. It follows with a swarm of attack drones to mop up mobile units and unlike Russia, China has A LOT OF drones.

Yeah, it would be really easy. That's what all countries say when they go to war... and then PLAN ships beging sinking and it's not an as easy figt anymore.

I doubt we'll see any invasion attempt after Russias blunders in Ukraine.

Invasion always happens when nobody expects it. But invasion will continue. People not only see Russian blunders but also American successes. China has been learning/copying Americans for decades.

China just needs to lay siege for a year or more - nothing goes in, nothing comes out. Simple..bloodless.

Invasion over a body of water is going to impose a prohibitively high cost on the invader. Bombing the $hit out of Taiwan is a non starter, it will scar the survivors for many generations and destroy valuable infrastructure.

…the only way an invasion succeeds is if China can establish a beach head with guile...and then build an air bridge to the mainland.

China CCP has scared many people for many generations and they are proud of themselves being excellent builders. Like all revolutionaries, destroying everything and then rebuilding it are much more attractive than just making small improvements on whatever exists. You are a French. You should know that.

I don’t think so, when I spoke of infrastructure I did not mean just roads, bridges and buildings. I meant the very foundations of Taiwans economy, if it is destroyed it will be an irrevocable loss to the mainland.

So be it. Anything physical can be rebuilt. If China chooses to invade, it would have and should have lost the hope to any feeling of kinship. Taiwan and Taiwanese are nothing but an enemy.

A decision to go to war isn't made lightly. If the decision is made, destroying their economy is kind of the point.

The biggest unknown would be if US will militarily intervene.

If Taiwan was by itself, then it would probably go down in 3 weeks. It will take China about 72 hours to achieve air superiority and a week to fully clear the air space.
