pudak pudak pudak :)

I am sure no one uses this terminology in India. In Pakistan we have Muqtadara Quami Zuban (National Language Authority) they publish a dictionary which contain these kindda terminology. Before the Muqtadar's dictionary, a dictionary written by my great grand Father was used , its name was Qamoos i Islahaaat :-)

BTW pistol in Urdu is tabanja

Few days back a friend of mine asked me to translate the following sentence : Product have been seal and santized for your protection.

My translation was

Musnuat ko aap ki hifazat ki khatir mutahir ve muhr baand kiya gaya hai :-)

i think dev444 is joking. i know that because matchsticks are either called "gandhak shalaka" or "agni shalaka", with agni meaning fire (must know by now), and "gandhak" is the word for sulphur. shalaka means stick.

we also have some kind of authority here, which sets the standard for Manak(Standard) Hindi. the standard dialect i s Khari Boli, as hindi has some 22 dialects.

in tatsam (sankrit) words, rules of sandhi and samaas apply just like sanskrit, which has a great standard grammar. most of "hindi" grammar is just repackaged good old Sanskrit Panninian grammar.

what struck me was "muhr". it means both , a seal, or coins, in persian. in Sanskrit the cognate is "mudra". as it were it also means both seals, and coins/currency.

Match for urdu is diya salai :-) some old folks still use that term :)

Persia and India have been neighbours for centuries, i am sure there must be some similarities in their languages. That is why both languages are Indo European langages

In Urdu, we say Pehchan to mean identity. Does the word Shanakht also mean identity?

Shanakhti Card - Identity Card..

Also, what does 'aas' mean Urdu? Does it mean 'expectation'?

And what about 'bin'? Does it mean 'without'?
