Hillary may push for fighter aircraft deal with India

How is she going to do it? IAF decided the contenders leading--- LM and Boeing lost fair and square. As much as this article is amusing, I find such masala makers ridiculous.

Tshering ...Please allow me to quote from Godfather ....

"I will make an offer which he can't refuse"......Be very wary of US..they are pstmasters in turning things around....IAF is least of US's problems...all they have to do is to convince babu's....Maybe Antony in this case is not a bad choice after all......

There are three variants of the F-35.

If the IN is looking for a fighter with VTOL capability to replace the aging Harriers, then I can't name any aircraft other than the F-35.

The F-35 is a good choice, it's a 5th generation fighter with the most advanced avionics now! But very costly. It doesn't even hold the promise of a workhorse fighter.

The Indians might want to consider the F-35 option for their navy, even though Hillary is just playing another salesperson politician :D

No, the IN will not be replacing the harriers. Infact it looked towards procurring decommisioned British Harriers to augment it's current carrier till it is retired sometime later this decade. At that time all the Harriers and the aircraft carrier will be retired.
The F-35, if considered will be for the future aircraft carrier.

Dude,I'm honestly sorry for whaling on you on all the time but we already have acquired Mig 29s for the Vikramaditya as replacement and are considering the F-35 B for purchase for the Navy. Not to mention the naval variant of the LCA.Why would we go after decommissioned jets from the Brits? That just makes no sense whatsoever.Where are you getting this drivel from?

Certified pre-owned Harriers?

A military always go for the best on offer, never the second or the third best.

I'd go for an F-35 over a used Harrier any day. Although, I understand the expenses and the problems revolving around the JSF program

F35 costs 120million+ not including weapons in all its a 5th gen fighter jet with less capabilities than the F22 we need a good 4.5 gen fighter for now not a 5th gen fighter we are building AMCA and FGFA in future to have 3 type of FGFA would be chaotic in terms of training spares and to maintain them would be coughing away several Million dollars in all

2030 IAF fighter fleet and roles

SU-30MKI (upgraded) air superiority / strike fighter

LCA Tejas (upgraded) interceptor/ strike fighter

AMCA air superiority/ strike fighter

FGFA main air superiority fighter

MMRCA aircraft mutirole fighter both air superiority and strike roles

what is wrong with you guys if the navy orders F-35B to replace harriers today it'll be delivered by 2018 but by then the INS Viraat will be retired so what'll they do with those jets????? buy HMS Arch Royal and get it refurbished so we can continue using F-35s????
if navy chooses JSF then it'll have to be the F-35C version or we'll be flying them of the shore.

The navy will have a challenge, at the most they would want to buy 30 F-35Cs, and then by the time the next carrier comes and it becomes bigger N-PAKFA will also surface...Just creating a logistical line for 30 fighters will not nake sense. Economically IMO. We have never operated LM fighters and currently MRCA will lead to Rafale and EFT when Rafale already has a carrier version they might want to go for Rafale, which will make sense even for smaller numbers as IAF and IN Rafales can be meintained by one facilty and that would make sense.

Its in the mutul interest of both countries. Take a good hard look at the CHina - Pakistan Nexus. They have a plan and are working towards it. It is the destruction of India. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a fool to not see it. They will give you signs of friendship and allow you lower your guard but thats exactly what they want. When both nations attack, India cannot fight alone. We need to make strong decisions about our future. We have to look after the survival of our nation first and foremost. This isa chance for us, to really the US how we are a capable partner and let our action speak not our words. India buy the fighters, it ill be the best deal in the long term scheme of things.

No doubt that we could use a strong ally against the pakistan- china nexus but USA is hardly a country one can trust. History has shown us that getting into a military alliance with US is like getting a sword with no hilt - you'll end up regretting it

I hope IAF stick with LCA-AMCA-FGFA-MKI for 2020 onwards.

That's not really true. COuld you name some examples of true allies that show this example. india and the US should stop thinking o bein temporary Allies and instead focus on really building a relationship for the long term. That is the key that will elimnate all these fears.
