Happy Raksha Bandhan

I agree brother protecting sister sounds as an outdated concept but if there is a reason to celebrate, we will celebrate.
I dont think many hindus know why we celebrate holi or diwali, but we do celebrate. :)

I agree. Even protecting women is an outdated concept...but if men do so ,the same women like ajtr will accuse men of being a 'bystander' as in the Assam Molestation case.

.
Just on word for you ajtr.

You being muslim will naturally oppose anything associated with Hindus.
So much for your secular views.
Oh SURE...HOW THE MUSLIM angle crept in so easily.
If you can not respect the festival atleast don't disrespect it.
asking valid questions about a tradition is not disrepecting.its like you say people disrespects hinduism for raising voice against untouchability tradition of hinduism.
You want to imply that thousands old traditions of India are useless and all the Hindus are fools who celebrate such festivals.
even untouchability is also 1000 years old tradition .

In the month of Ramzan plz don't invite comments which may tarnish islam as there are far more illogical and weird rituals in Islam. Target them not the festivals of Hindus.
Now Hindus have to even take permission from fundamentalist like you to celebrate their age old festivals in India.
And what Ramzan has to do anything with rakshabandhan? And from where fundamentalism crept in just for asking the validity of celebrating a tradition which undermines the equality of sexes.

@ajtr: Nobody is forcing the sisters to tie the Rakhi. Its out of their free will that they do so.
Its like nobody is forcing parents of girl to give dowry its out of free goodwill.but we all know dowry is a social ill out of free will isnt it?

@ajtr i was avoiding to reply,bt i thnk explanation need to b given to u so that u cn plz shut up, we dnt ne ed lesson hw to respect women.. A true hindu knws that very well, when a person keeps fast in navratra and at the end of 9th day ,8 little girls are given food to break that fast.. When i was a child i pressed feet of my father and mother bt my sister never did that bcoz a gal is considered devi.. Nd regarding respecting parents dnt teach us that too.. Ex- 1-shravan kumar who took is mother and father for char dham yatra on foot and guess where these char dham are?2-bhagwan shri ram knwing that what hardship he s going to face, he happily accepted exile of 14 yrs.. To keep his fathers word as its said raghukul reeti sada chali aayi, praan jaye par vachan na jae..
Oh sure indian men need lesson for respenting the female when what they lear is like mugging up for exam ang vomit it out on answer sheets.thats why indian boy/men cozes problem at tours to china by their eve teasing.

oh sure indian men have to learn a lot.Its not just that you celebrate a festival and claim "oh i'm most cultured person".

culture morality should be in actions not in words.

.
Hehe...tamil boys dont have anything to fear this day because raksha bandhan is not celebrated here much....:yahoo:

For those unlucky guys in rest of the country...Happy Raksha bandhan...

My Dear Indian Sis,

Oldest reference of Rakhi is in Mahabharta for Draupadi & Krishna. Krishna used to call Draupadi a "Sakhee".If you see there relation it was much more than help during chir-haran thing.[
Bhaijaan,
i 've already posted the history of this tradition few pages back you can do good if you go read that.

Protection is not only the responsibility of a brother towards his sister, it implies more like moral support, emotional support, familial & economical support in times of need. Also Sister has many other responsibilities towards his brother even she can help brother in same way like brother help her when she needs. We can see in our society sometimes elder sister take responsibilty to support her brother that because of bond & attachment here again dont bring thing that its something not according to hinduism.
Yes protection has various meaning and types. That means it must be reminded to the women that they are depended on man for everything. They need man's protection be it physically ,financially etc etc.

Might be that Protection is a outdated concept but Rakhi is not what as you say. Responsibilties change according to time but relationship & bond that brother sister shares remains same.
Rahi is all about what i'm pointing out everything is in the name.Raksha(protection)

Today's women dont need protection or word of promised safety from their brothers but that doesnt mean they dont need brother taking responsibilty on times she needs or even supporting her brother when he needs.
start equivalent raksha bandhan making girl's role as protector then we'll talk about it.till then raksha bandhan will remain a discrimination towards women.

Dont see concepts like Rakshabandhan with view of today's liberalised women see it as a gratefulness towards weaker sex in society during old times. If you cant respect it atleast dont defame it by calling it male dominated trick or female oppression thing.
The traditions which dont suits the modern values has to die down like untouchability.

Nice way to twist the argument. If blamed people being just bystanders in watching the molestation and not helping the girl is what i was pointing out dying cultural values in indians Wont people call ambulance when someone meets an accident on road. And in both scenarios its help not the protection. For protection of girls i always demand regularly to allow to amr themselves so that they can protect themselves by shooting the 20-30 molesters as that of assam dead right on the road.one such incident will serve the positive lesson for whole community of indian men.

Well its like giving girl's share of the ancestral property at the time of marriage in Gold.

I have heard of sisters married and living far away sending Rakhis to their brothers by post. Surely they are not forced.

I think you went on a rant about Indian men in that forum of us being insensitive and 90% of us being women molesters, so on and so forth. My question why should men take all the blame. Was no women present in that road. Why didn't they come forward and and save the girl..why always men have to to the job of bashing up the molesters.

Not anymore ..girls have equal rights in ancestral properties as boys.

I'll define this behavior as Stockholm syndrome. When a tradition has been imposed since thousands of years ten what do you expect?Even kidnapping victim start showing empathy to his/her own kidnapper.

And it takes a psychologically strong person to break such syndromes and traditions

That was not a rant thats the truth i spoke about indian men.and i see the same attitude among the many of pdf indian men.Its sorry to say i ve very less indian male friends on pdf as compared to pakistanis whom indian define enemy.

Movable assets to the daughter and immovable assets to the son.

If what you say is true then Indian Hindu women are in dire need of mass therapy.

Again you didn't answer the question? Where was the women when the girl was being groped? Why you expect men to come to their rescue.

As for friendship part ...look through your posts in this thread and think why Indians doesn't want to become friends with you.

.
I wonder if difficult time comes only in female's life only but not in male's life so as to fight that difficult phase she needs a protector in father, brother, husband.
And as if men dont need protection in difficult phase of life.
Sorry to say but rakshabandhan is just another festival to glorify male chauvinism and remind women that men are supreme to you your protector.

Ajtr, so sad that you think that way....Rakhi is about Love that Brother and sister share...... male chauvinism is nothing to do wid it sister....

.
Any festival that brings happiness should b celearated world wide why not south it should b celebrated in PAK Also,.. And i dnt knw what dependence ur taking ajtr. ..may b u r brought up in such a environment where luv between siblings is termed as dependence.. And regarding im cultured r nt.. Neither u nor i am the best person to judge that.. Let bhagwan decide it, but yes i try to follow what is ethical..

.
Movable assets to the daughter and immovable assets to the son.
Women do get rights in immovable property too.Implementation of law requires women knowing about their rights and education.

If what you say is true then Indian Hindu women are in dire need of mass therapy.
whats better therapy than the do away with the tradition itself.

Again you didn't answer the question? Where was the women when the girl was being groped? Why you expect men to come to their rescue.
were there any women???i didnt notice anyone except the girl.we dont expect man to protect us we ask for rights to kill groping men.like that rowdy sheeter was lynched to death by women moslesting and eveteasing.

As for friendship part ...look through your posts in this thread and think why Indians doesn't want to become friends with you.
I've 10% of the decent cultured indians who are already my friends. As for the rest 90% uncultured etholess indian men leave me not even any cultured person will be friends with them.

Ajtr, so sad that you think that way....Rakhi is about Love that Brother and sister share...... male chauvinism is nothing to do wid it sister....
Rakhi is tradition of male chauvinism disguised as protector, love ec hi-flying words.that doesnt change its real intent.
