The Orange Line train will have to pay billions of rupees a year to pay back its debt, and even if it has a ticket of 60 rupees, only 10 billion annual subsidy will be paid for running the train (O&M). The cabinet has sent a decision assembly so that the public representatives come to a decision

A few days ago, former spokesperson Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Gul told a program that even if the Orange Line train ticket was kept at Rs 285, the train would only cover its expenses and the interest would still have to be paid six billion rupees annually.

Was there any doubt?

The government now has no option. They can't just scrap it, it would be even more stupid, the loans and the interest on them won't go away. Instead of playing more politics on the matter, like the typical Pakistani government that PTI is, they need to start service on it asap.

I hope Govt drags everyone into courts for doing this,if they don't it means it's for only point scoring.People can be held responsible for a Project assessment which failed and costed state.

They are giving subsides to PIA,PSM and many more Govt owned entities which don't produce anything.

Ditto.

Also can Mr. Buzdar provide us the details of how much it has cost the Punjab government to keep this line inactive since he's been in power? Or maybe even what he has done for those hospitals and schools that he is so worried about? It's a circus and the people of Pakistan are enjoying the show to their own detriment.

Transportation is necessary but cheap and economical ones are required not the show off ones like orange line..
What we do not realize is that other than the principle amount and interest, the long term effects of the orange infrastructure would be more serious..
It will
1. Increase smog and air pollution
2.. Noise pollution will be increased
3.. Maintenance cost wud be high
4... Unless cheaper canal, garbage or salt range coal or wind power projects are used it will worsen the energy requirements and energy mix. It will also put strain on the already overwhelmed electricity infrastructure and increase the receivables as well.
5...subsidy to run the train will go with time
6... Just like metro bus the metro train will become a new place for dharna and strike rallies and idiots will indiscriminately damage the property which will be more expensive to repair and maintain
7.. Lastly the whole of lahore's skyline is tarnished for ever

Can someone ask PTI how many schools and hospitals were built by them in their tenure?
They forgot to mention the cost of their pet project Peshawar BRT and why its still.not operational. Orange line was suppose to start last year but it was delayed due to litigation by PTI itself. All infrastructure projects facing slowdown and hurdles in funding under PTI govt. All projects are made on loans.

Pti govt. has become a joke.

Usually govt has to do all of them. Not cherry pick. Public transport in urban areas is also duty of govt.

I have been editing a lot of posts and thread titles due to use of such slang or street language which is not even understandable to many. Be kind enough to help us to reduce such time wasting moderation.

This project and the cost that it incurred forget anything else by kabarai party and this lest us not forget 'saaf pani company' that didn't even give one drop of water!! Is BRT in peshawar going to incur the same loss to the coffers? By the way how many schools and hospitals have been built in the kabaria days they have been in power so long and taken many turns ruling Punjab and central government! couldn't even build a hospital to fix mians platan chamchay and dongay.

PIA has started to become profitable after hard work put in to it I know because I fly in it frequently despite all the pisspoor service of the past to now it really started to turn it around! That is despite so many of its routes were sold to gulf and then that mofo kakki bassi stole one of its routes for its own airline!

How is PIA in the same league as khatti train? do explain that to me. has khatti train replaced ML-1?
