BTW Europe's priority is meeting its energy needs and if the U.S do not pressurize them they would prefer to normalize ties with Russia. The winner if there is anyone here is Middle East who has got a lot of oil and gas and can connect to Europe by land. What does India offer that Europe needs? For everything else China already has a larger share of exports. It exports at least 10x of India

All these countries will benefit. Vietnam is cheap but doesn't have the engineering talent or English skills that India does. More complex process will probably move to India Mexico and ASEAN are more expensive and each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Even countries like Bangladesh may gain as they have experience in garments and are cheaper than China.


The PPP adjusted per capita GDP of India is higher than Bangladesh and the poor in India receive a lot of subsidies and state support. The average person in India is slightly better off than the one in Bangladesh.

Now world has changed. There are too many countries fighting for same manufacturing jobs. And saying Vietnam don’t have engineering talent Is not accurate. They have excellent education system. Every county in ASEAN or Mexico are good competitors.

And yes bd is either bit poorer or similar then average Indians. The reason I bring gdp because most Indians here think india is USA and bd is Mexico lol. What are you talking about? They were paying for most of infrastructure spending in Afghanistan before Taliban took over. They are not an authoritarian regime like China, so they don't force aid recipients to use American companies and labour like China does. Many projects in Afghanistan were executed by Indian companies and funded by Americans. They are the major donor for multilateral agencies as well.

Vietnam may have a good education system, but there is no comparison with the quality and quantity of Indian engineers. CEOs of major American companies have been educated in India. So they will naturally have an affinity for India.

Obviously, both are developing countries. Even China is not a rich country . India is technologically more advanced than Bangladesh in most areas and has a much bigger economy in absolute terms, but there are still large pockets of backwardness in India. However, most people won't claim BD is richer than India just because its currency is slightly overvalued right now.

Also, the direction of trade is not unidirectional. One major strategic advantage for India will be a much shorter link to Israel which is an important defence and technology partner.

I mean American executive power is accountable to Congress and courts. America doesn't have state run enterprises and when Americans give development aid they don't impose conditions that only American companies and American labour can be used.

No one in India knows what PISA is. Even I had to Google it. It is a competition for 15 year old kids. What does that have to do with engineering talent. Almost no on in India knows about it and India hasn't participated there since 2009. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Top engineering departments in US universities, especially in CS and EE are full of Indian faculty and doctoral students and top tech companies are run by India-educated executives. There may be some great Viet engineers as well but it is not the first company an American executive will think of when he has to find engineers at a lower cost than in the US.
