Football in the Indian subcontinent?

Thats the name americans gave that to this game. They have the practise of giving their own names to what they see. Like gasoline, railroad, and American football.

It's a combination of rugby & football rules. Americans have this habit of making things their own way... & it hurts their ego to follow someone else's rule.

They even tried to mess with actual football game by bringing in their own way of taking penalties few years ago. Instead of kicking the ball from the penalty spot they would run with the ball & dribble past the Goalie before scoring. That thing flopped big time though...

Ya right. U gave the exact meaning i was trying to give. It does hurt their ego much, considering the rules are made in the countries they lived ones.
They mess up with very good english too. I personally find British English a lot better than American English.
And there are reports , already Indian English is too a very much a reality considering the mixing we have done with English!!

It's hilarious to think, numerous people pole vaulting together from both sides of border during partition. What a term 'Pole Vault'.:omghaha: There are many new terms am learning in this forum. So many Sergai Bubka's here but still our countries were not able to manage a gold in the Olympics. :D

Anyways sorry for the off topic post. Couldn't resist myself after hearing that term. :P

I reached district level (Cricket) in just 14 years of age, but my parents compelled me to give it up because of board exam. And after being out of field for a stretch of 2 years, i was as useful as a 12th man.

In college, i did great with basketball, but failed to take it to another level because of lack of time and interest.

Mine is similar. I was playing Second Division CAB, when I was 16. But had to give up because of my Board Exam. 3 years break and then only played a bit of College and Office cricket, though lost touch. Was playing as Right back in College football team but by that time had lost half of my stamina.

Not exactly. English dictionery have added a lot of words from various sub continental languages. And we have begin to add our own flavour to English. Tunglish is a tern used in Tamil Nadu, a mixture of English and Tamil. Hinglish , yes. And many more.
Words life Guru, Khaki have found their way to English dictioneries primarily from the languages of the sub continent and their popularity with English speakers abroad.

Tinglish is not english as it seems... while guru, khaki etc are loan words... with khaki originating from the british indian army in peshawar... while in urdu n persian it means soil.. any how some words dont make it "indian english"...

sadly looks like high school football in the US....

It will require years and training before we ever match the standards of physical fitness and skill that even D III college football programs exhibit....can tell just looking at the quality of passes (not a single spiral!) and the block.

The concept of this game look like rugby but their is a huge difference between these two.

Loan words? Guru is an ancient sanskrit word. Everyone knows that. Khaki is a word long before British Indian Army ever existed.
I just gave an example. There are many Indian words assimilated into English. The Indian languages, I mean to Urdu too (considering it as an recognised languages of India).

Seriously.. Some of you people need to know what your talking about before posting BS in a forum.. Those video's are from the EFL (The Elite Football League of India ) It is the first men's professional American football league in India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.. Started in 2012 to promote American football(Gridiron) to the sub continent by some American and Indian expats from the US.. A very amature attempt in a region where except for SL(Rugby union and 7's) body contact football is non existent

Btw somebody quite hilariously mentioned India won the Under 19 Rugby WC!!!! :cheesy:

Indian Rugby Union is ranked 74 in the world off 100 ranked countries..International Rugby Board - World Rankings: Full world rankings

They play in the Div III of the Asian 5 nations

And no they have not competed in a u19WC let alone played in any WC qualifiers to date..

Just that you know Indian national coach is actually a former Lankan club coach Ronnie Ibrahim

Sri Lanka is the only country in the sub continent playing world standard Rugby.. It's ranked 4 th in Asia and 39th in the world and competes in the elite top Asian 5 nations with Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and the newly promoted Philippines
