MMRCA%2Bfinal.jpg

The Indian Defence Ministry's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting this afternoon will include final discussions on the Indian Air Force's Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) programme ahead of the opening of commercial bids towards the end of this month. Sources say today's meeting will sort of any outstanding offsets issues and the applicability of new rules.

Both offers will be too costly and F/A-18 will be bought through FMS..:D

Koi maro isko....:guns:

Its possible. Blacklisting foreign companies for the trivial of reasons is a favorite passtime of MoD. IA is waiting for 20+ years for the artillery and almost every company who comes close to winning the bid is blacklisted.

Cant resist to agree with you brother. MoD and its babus were dillydallying on this decision for 7 long years while our Mig-21s were dropping out of the sky like stones and many young pilot's lives lost in the process.

Now its sure Eurofighter will win the bid:D

Eurofighters escort President in rare honour

VIENNA: In a rare honour, two Eurofighter Typhoon combat jets escorted the Air India One aircraft carrying President Pratibha Patil as it entered the Austrian airspace.

Within seconds of entering the Austrian airspace from Switzerland on Tuesday, two gleaming jets appeared suddenly on the left side of the President's plane.

Those inside the presidential aircraft started shooting the jets in frenzy. But, only with their mobile phones and cameras.

The Eurofighters are one of the shortlisted contenders in the Indian MRCA tender to purchase 126 "Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft".

After about two minutes, one of the jets suddenly pulled back and flew to the other side of the aircraft. Everyone was just interested in getting the perfect shot of the plane which also opened its co-passenger shield as a mark of respect. The best view was just before landing as all three aircraft lost altitude and the jets were at an arm's length.

New Delhi: India moved one step ahead towards finalising the M-MRCA deal with the Defence Ministry today paving the way for opening the commercial bids of two shortlisted vendors by approving their offset proposals.

After the bids are opened, the Defence Ministry will be able to determine the lowest bidder in the deal for 126 Medium-Multi Role Combat Aircraft (M-MRCA) and decide who will ultimately get the contract described as the ‘mother of all deals’.

At a meeting chaired by Defence Minister A K Antony, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) cleared the offset evaluation report of Dassault Rafale and Eurofighter Typhoon, the two remaining contenders, Defence Ministry officials said in New Delhi.

All the spade work for the opening of bids have been completed. Opening of the bids will be done in a few days in the presence of the two vendors,” they said.

As per the offset clause, foreign vendors bagging deals worth over Rs 300 crore are supposed to invest back 30 percent of the worth of the contract in Indian defence industry.

In M-MRCA, the vendors will have to invest 50 percent of the worth of the deal.

“No date has been specified for opening of the bids but it will happen soon,” the officials said.

The offset proposals of the two companies were tabled before the DAC by Director General (Acquisition) Vivek Rae.

Besides the Defence Minister, the two-hour meeting was attended by the three Service chiefs, the Defence Secretary, the Secretarym, Defence Production, the DG (Acquisition) and concerned joint secretaries in the Ministry.

After the bids are opened to evaluate the lowest bidder, the proposal will move to the Finance Ministry for its approval and it will then go to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for final nod by the government.
