In a concerted effort to reduce the percentage of foreign components in the Indian LCA Tejas fighter, the Aeronautical Development Agency has drawn up a comprehensive list of 111 aircraft line-replacable units (LRUs) that will be indigenised and built by Indian companies within the country. The ambitious list includes 21 avionics components (including gyro reference unit, tactical navigation antenna and GPS antenna), 27 environmental control components, 14 electrical components (including under-carriage display unit, integral drive generator and ground power receptacle), ejection seat, nine components in the flight control area (left and right air data sensors, angle of attack sensor, sensor assembly rate).

The list also includes several key LRUs in hydraulics, landing gear, propulsion and fuel, and the aircraft’s health and utility management system. In a statement announcing it’s interest, the ADA has said, “There are 358 LRUs (components) in the Tejas aircraft, out of which 53 per cent of total LRUs are indigenously developed within India. In view to reduce the remaining 47 per cent of the import LRUs, ADA has initiated the indigenous development programme for indigenisation of the import LRUs.”

There it is again, my favourite word when it comes to ADA and DRDO. Also how about getting the development done and the fighter into operational service, before wasting time on where some of the minor parts come from ! ! !
It's exactly this silly waste of time for pride reasons, that got the whole development so delayed.

TEJAS is an example of how to fail, while using best of world's technology and consultants and DRDO is the sole credit winner.

TEJAS need redesign in every aspect, in current shape and form it can never be accepted by IAF.

.
I agree with you Sancho sir...At present main focus of ADA and DRDO should be on getting FOC for LCA Mk1 and first flight of LCA Mk2...That too before 2014.....

Believe me BATMAN if it would have been PAF in place of IAF then they would have accepted this in present configuration as PAF don't have liberty of going for more Su30Mki,Rafale or even PAKFA..

Like you achieved something big. All work was done by Chinese, their design, avionics, etc. etc. and you call it joint effort.

BTW India is making Fifth gen plane. So keep your rants away from this thread.

Tejas is our own effort and not many countries attained this. Even our engine was not a failure, it just had some failure and low thrust which will be rectified in consultation with SNECMA.

So keep your nose out of this thread if you don't have anything worthy to say.

@MODs: The level of moderation in JF-17 thread should be shown in Tejas thread too.

Cheers.

Congrats, you just proved that you have no idea about the fighter, nor the development, because it's completelly the other way around! :disagree:

It is well known that we have a different feeling for time in India, but it sometime amazes me, how chilled DRDO and ADA seems to be wrt to this development. They celebrate whenever another prototype will be roled out, they integrated HMS, Litening pod years ago, they now are trying to develop an MK2 and a naval version and also want to reduce foreign parts.
I wonder if they ever heared about things like checklists, where you finish one point first, before you go to the next.
DRDO should have given more focus on the engine and radar developments (one reason why LCA is the first fighter in the world, that first will add A2G capabilities before A2A and they might be even proud of it).
ADA should focus more on reducing drag as well as the fuel tank and engine integrations of MK2, instead to bother about some nuts and bolts.
