Tata-Airbus Avro-replacement bid
This is a Brave and forward looking decision. :yahoo:

. .
Now at least all the tenders where singlle bid situation occurs and which has no deviations and is completely clean , the chances of approval runs higher. This saves us from "vortex" of cancellations and re tendering.
Common sense would tell that it is the best method to go forward.
In cases where there is a single bid, owing to audit and vigilance audit worries, agencies hesitate to take decision and issue remains in limbo for long or worse the file is dumped or sent in endless journey between departments.
As i said yesterday, if DM is convinced beyond doubt that the single bid issue is not a result of restrictive specifications in tender, it is wise to accept the bid. Even in case of re-tendering, you cannot rule out price escalation (not to mention loss of time) and that makes the whole process even more painful.
Glad DAC showed urgency to the issue.
I have big hopes from Tata Airbus JV, we can expect timely execution of project.

It is a fact, the new DM has said DACs will be held monthly now.
Considering the backlogs, about time they meet regularly.

What happened to apache and chinook.it was to be cleared before aston cartor arrive

Although with a production line in India it shouldn't be much of a hassle for the ICG and the CAPFs to place their own orders for the C-295 at a later date.
Advantages of having domestic production setup.
@Abingdonboy i saw some pictures of C295 having a rotodome mounted radar. Do you have any info on use of the platform in AWACS role.

if so, whenever DRDO comes up with a bigger radar, maybe the platform can be used for AWACS role besides EMB 145i program already under development.

.
Which 6 ships will get Brahmos? I am guessing 3 initial Talwar class( who were to get brahmos during MLU) and 3 Delhi class destroyers.

India has already selected A330 for bigger AWACS.

Its a Prototype airborne early warning and control version with 360 degree radar dome. The AESA radar was developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and has an integrated IFF (Identification friend or foe) system. It is still to be operationalized and is still in prototype phase - The speed that IAF requires, most prop aircrafts can't deliver (except maybe one with the TP400 engines of the A400). So a prop engined platform is pretty much out of question for IAF and the only reason DRDO used the Avros in the past, was that we had them available for test and modifications.

This provides sufficient clarity to the whole purchase. Excellent deal by the MoD and full marks to Parrikar and Modi.

Better still is the timing of the deal, just before the China visit. :D

Now we can calculate the price of each equipment,

1. 197 LUH (Ka 226T) for Rs. 3,000 Crore, i.e Only 2.45 Million $ PER Helicopter  (All to be made in India with ToT)

2. Total 6 Brahmos Pack. Each pack containing 8 Missiles i.e total of 72 Brahmos, which means each Missile cost 6 Million $

3. Total of 56 C-295 Transport Aircraft for Rs. 11,929 Crore, i.e. 34.36 Million $ per Aircraft

4. Total 145 M-777 to be made in India for the New Strike Force raised for China, for Rs. 2,900 Crore i.e Each Gun cost 3.23 Million $

True, but what i want to know is that this being a smaller aircraft and rotodome radar offering 360 degree coverage (against 240 degree of EMB 145i), may be this platform can be used for next generation Indian AWACS, especially it can be adapted for naval use.
If i'm not wrong, A 330 based proposed system is a peer to existing A-50 Phalcon system, a much heavier (&capable) package.

If IN gets EMALS, there is a reasonable chance that this platform will be used for Naval AWAC.

Project Planing for INS Vishal has already been cleared with this deal, so this is probably in the horizon. cheers.

Is this the final nod? Or does some other body has to approve it? Maybe Negotiaions?

Or I mean is the Airbus deal done now?

@Abingdonboy ?

Why do you want this little prop jobber to take (away) the glory of our AWACS INDIA project. DRDO AEW&CS is for cheapos so 270 deg coverage is acceptable. EMB-145 is more capable - fly higher, fly faster (almost 2x), also being a commercial convert, its fuel efficient. And whats with the naval use? If you are thinking INS Vishal as ^^, then pls don't. Modifying (twin tails, catapult TO, arrested landing, hard landing etc.) and certification will cost a bomb and take yeaaaaars.
