Dreams & Promises - How Much & Many delivered as yet by Nawaz Sharif?

Despite relief of International Oil Prices, this Government has squandered away that opportunity. FDI is at an all time low, unemployment is at an all time high, poverty is increasing, inflation is touching the sky, just look at what the prices our for basic food stuff materials, exports have consistently gone down and all this Government has done is borrow money from abroad instead of implementing tax reforms.

There is corruption in practically every department and every mega project. Even such an important project like CPEC, the first contract worth $1.9 billion has been handed over to a corrupt person like Saif Ur Rehman. This Government is by far the most useless and the most corrupt Government in Pakistan's history.

A year old but a relatively good article.

Parliament watch: Halfway through term, PML-N has no one left to blame

In the second half of 2013, when the PML-N had just taken over, Pakistan’s economic ills and mis-governance were blamed on the previous PPP government.

A year later, in 2014, the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was declared the villain for holding a long dharna and destablising the country. Senior PML-N leaders didn’t miss a single occasion to accuse the PTI chairman of scaring away much-needed international investment. In particular, the postponement of the long-awaited visit of the Chinese president to Pakistan was blamed on PTI.

We are now in the second half of 2015, within touching distance of the halfway mark of the five year term. However, this time around Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif cannot shift responsibility on to anyone else. The PPP rule is now firmly part of the past and a tamed PTI may still be whipping up a storm in its press conferences, but it is no longer in a position to threaten a dharna or demand the prime minister’s resignation.

In other words, whatever the government has delivered or failed to deliver, in 2015 or later, will be PML-N’s responsibility alone.

Because of this, the PML-N has already begun to feel the heat.

For some months now, the government’s mistakes and mis-governance have been doing the rounds. From the opposition parties to the media, the PML-N is everyone’s favourite target.

Be it Nandipur; the LNG pricing issue or the absence of a full-time foreign minister, the PML-N is being battered.

Undoubtedly, the power sector is the most-discussed issue. After all, the PML-N had used the loadshedding card to win the election. But two and a half years later, the government has failed to introduce urgently-needed reforms in the power sector. Despite a small army of advisers and energy experts, the line losses of the ten electricity distribution companies have jumped from Rs30 billion to Rs50 billion in the last two years.

Before this revelation, the 425MW Nandipur Power Project fiasco, the embarrassing launch of the 6,500 MW Gadani power park and the inordinate delay in the completion of the 969MW Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project have also been highlighted as proof of the government’s dismal performance in improving the electricity supply situation.

The PML-N, despite its reputation for arrogance, has been facing the onslaught of criticism. Appearing in talkshow after talkshow, they have also held multiple press conferences to explain their side of the story.

This, however, is not all that the PML-N is grappling with.

Accountability and its implementation are giving the ruling party members sleepless nights. In the past two years, there was little accountability of the governing elite as the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly (PAC), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Accountability Bureau, appeared listless and compromised.

In fact, when NAB, under the Supreme Court’s pressure, made public the list of 150 scandals, which included cases involving the two Sharif brothers, the party lashed out at the Bureau. And later, when the NAB and FIA, magically, woke up from their slumber and began gunning for the ‘guilty’, the PML-N was held responsible by its political friends such as the PPP.

This criticism continues, as the PPP and others feel that the PML-N is now willing to let everyone but their own be investigated. Allegations of a biased accountability process are growing louder.

On the legislation front, as always, the PML-N government has nothing much to offer.

All it has to its credit is the infamous 21st constitutional amendment, which allowed the setting up of military courts. But the government has taken no steps for meaningful judicial reforms or improving the prosecution system and so on.

The government has also failed to legislate on other issues as well such as women rights or drafting an acceptable cybercrime bill. This is one area where the PPP’s performance outstrips the PML-N. The former passed a number of important laws including the all important 18th amendment.

With this track record, it’s easy to predict that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the rest of his party will continue to face a hostile media and an aggressive opposition in the coming weeks and months.

The party seems to be aware of this.

“We are in no doubt that if we fail to end loadshedding before the next general elections, it will be a tough contest for us against the PTI. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is aware of this fact and brings it up regularly during the cabinet meetings,” commented a senior government minister on the condition of anonymity.

But he had no answer when asked what the government was doing to meet its challenges.

CPEC has nothing to do with Nawaz, Benazir or any politician. Will discuss CPEC and Zarb-e-Azb in detail - Thanks folks!!

True, it was a stroke of luck. As economic growth slows in Eastern China, to boost growth in Western China which lagged behind the East, the Chinese Government initiated CPEC and also secure its energy supplies. The PML-N Govermment has very little to do with it, this is why Army delegations are visiting China on a monthly basis to ensure smooth transition.

PML-N Government is only interested in corruption. Just think, the most important project of our countries history, and the first project for CPEC worth $1.9 billion handed over to a corrupt front men Saif Ur Rehman.

When you will get mature and stop following your childish leaders premature ejaculated promises.. Seriously....... Stop defending please... InsAllah if you still remain in this forum till 2018 i will ask from you the same question.... InsAllah

By the end of next year, unless you happen to be blind (which I assume you are not), you won't have these silly questions anymore. Because about 60-70% of the big ticket projects will be coming online starting mid next year. By 2018 (early to mid), you won't have words to criticize others as you'd have seen their progress more than every ruler combined in the past 70 years of Pakistan's dark history.

.
70% of term has elapsed and there is no direction so my question is will there be any hope in next 30% of the term?

It's easier said than done - neighbor's cleaning lady's family committed suicide as they could not educate their children nor could plan for marriages of her two daughters so the family of 6 committed suicide last week.

When 25 million kids are out of school, it's not a rant, when 6% of population is infected with hepatitis its not a rant, when every minute a child dies due to water borne diseases then it's not a rant, when 10 million children have stunted growth due to malnutrition then it's not a rant.

I guess no one want's to take a first shot by letting us know what are his/her views on performance; so let me take the first crack.

Govt., has completed 62% of its term as of today.

1. Load shedding – Current State as of June 16th, 2016: 8-10 hours / Day in Cities, and 14-16 hours / Day in areas classified as Rural Areas. Effectively meaning that cities are without power for 40% of the day while rural areas are sans power for 60% of the day.

Performance of PPP and PMLN is pretty much the same - Is it not?

2. Bullet Train –

3. Motorways all over in Pakistan –

4. Debt (Internal + External) Per Head

As of today total per capita debt is estimated to be around Rs.115,000/Person – also take into account population growth rate of 2.07%. It was Rs.80,000 per head when PPP handed it over to PMLN.

As for Public Debt to GDP it was 58.9 percent in 2011, reflecting the tenure of Shaukat Tarin as the Finance Minister to 63.3 percent when Dr Hafeez Sheikh was Finance Minister in PPP’s Govt.,. During Dar's tenure, total debt to GDP ratio rose to 63.5 percent in 2014 and 64.8 percent in 2016 (based on contentious statement of Dar that GDP growth rate is 4.7%).

5. Rooting out (loss) corruption

NAB Chairman - in his recent statements have claimed per day corruption as between Rs.14-16 billion – however most credible economists estimate it to be in excess of Rs.20billion/Day.

They estimate currently; magnitude of black economy of Pakistan is Rs.20 trillion. Pakistan is suffering a loss of Rs.3,000 billion every year due to below capacity recovery of taxes the country sustains loss of another Rs.5,000 billion a year; hence the total loss reaches Rs.8,000 billion a year effectively meaning Rs.22 billion a day.

When Respected High Highness Nawaz Sharif suddenly came to address the nation aka National Emergency Situation last month; he just remembered three privileged children which he valiantly defended and cared for but perhaps forgot to speak even a single line for the children of a lesser god:

- 25 million children (aged between 5 – 16 years) that do not have access to education
- 250,000 children under the age of 5 that die every year due to water borne diseases.
- 10 million children with stunted growth
- 4 million suffering from acute malnutrition

Indeed priorities are right and promises are dreams.

In 2018; Bullet Trains will be so 2013 so let’s up the ante and promise supersonic jet airliners to the likes of this little girl. For those who believe; selling their vote for such dreams is not a bad deal – at least the dream maker is living their dreams!
Love of the banner.

Load shedding exceeds 14 hours despite govt assurance

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In the wake of sweltering heat wave across the country, load shedding has increased from 10 hours to 14 hours despite promises and pledges made by the government, reported Dunya News on Wednesday.

Earlier, the government had promised to bring a prominent reduction in power outrage but was of no use. Announced and unannounced load shedding had increased as energy shortfall had reached to 6000 megawatts.

Urban residents experienced 8 to 10 hours of load shedding while rural natives faced 14 to 16 hours of power outage. Ministry of Water and Power stated that 14, 500 megawatts had been produced in the national grid while the country demands 21000 megawatts in totality.

Thank you for your (largely incorrect) analysis. You can read the progress the country has made since 2013 in the above article, progress which is exemplified even further by our newly minted "Emerging Market" status.

It must pain both of you to see the writing on the wall that PMLN will sweep the elections again in 2018. On a related note, I wonder who is bankrolling Qadri's trips to Pakistan. Why don't both of you spend some time analyzing that?

The only govt in whose tenure the exports have come down. The PM is abroad. He only comes to visit the country some time. Now he is calling his cabinet to London. This country is becoming a laughing stock.

These two brothers have money for metro trains, metro buses but not for schools, education and hospitals. Leave aside schools or hospital, how about investing that money in local power plants so that country can get rid of load shedding?

These two brothers are thakey daars. They build these big ticket projects to siphon commission money in their foreign accounts. This is how they own Bentleys and live in posh London localities.

Pakistanis who follow these thieves and admire them are the biggest fools of this planet. Problem is those who sing the songs of praise of PMLN are educated too. As if embarrassment of defending these thieves was not enough!
